Mangalore: Veteran Journalist Narasimha Rao No More

Mangalore, Jul 14: Veteran journalist Narasimha Rao (87), who had been in the media field for almost half a century, passed away in his residence in Kadri on Friday July 13.

Hailing from Udupi, he was born on November 7, 1925. He started his career as a correspondent in ‘The Mail’ (Madras) in 1947 which he took up after his father’s demise.

He later worked as a correspondent for ‘The Times of India’ in 1964, and for ‘The Hindu’ from 1965 to 1993. He was a founder editor of ‘Kannada Vani’ Kannada daily started in 1962.

Although much of his work is concerned with newspapers, he also served as a correspondent for ‘Akashvani’ (All India Radio) from 1962 to 1985. 

He has served for 11 years as a president in South Canara District Journalist Union. President and active member of various associations, Rao was conferred the Kannada Rajyotsava Award in 1993, Pa Go Award for best rural reporting, Kalkura Prathistana Prashasti and others.

B Janardhan Poojary paid homage to the departed soul at Rao's residence.

The District Journalist Association will hold a condolence meet for Narasimha Rao at the Press Club on Saturday at 11 am said, Srinivas Nayak, secretary of Press Club.

    A great and one of rare breed of honest, simple and hard-working journalist whom I knew personally, respected and admired greatly. I had known him when I entered the field of journalism way back in 1972. I felt sad when I read the news in today's Hindu paper. My sincere condolences to his bereaved family.
