Bangalore: Missing Techie Satwik Found Dead at Bannerghatta Park

Bangalore, Jul 16 (Agencies): Satwik Shastry, an IT professional who went missing while trekking in the Bannerghatta Biological Park, was found dead inside the forest on Monday afternoon. As his leg was fractured, it was suspected to be an elephant attack.

Satwik was not traceable till Sunday night, while Anupam and Ashish, his childhood friends, were able to find their way to a nearby village.

The three reached the Ragihalli hillock, a viewpoint from where the entire forest is visible. They climbed down from the hillock into the dense forest and reached Kasubina Kunte, a village. The villagers told Deccan Herald that they had spotted the three around 6:30 in the evening.

According to the village residents, the trio entered the forest and soon disappeared. Two of the trekkers returned to the village late in the night looking bruised.

“On questioning, they said that one of them had gone missing in the forest. We immediately informed the police and then joined the search party,” said Mallesh, a resident of Kasubina Kunte.

Anupam told Deccan Herald that they had gone into the forest in the afternoon, parking their two-wheelers on the Ragihalli hillock and reached the village located at the other end of the forest.

“We were returning as it was becoming dark. Some 15 minutes away from the village, Satwik separated from the group to attend a nature call. He asked us to go on, saying he would join us. A few minutes later, when he did not catch us up with us, we began searching for him for nearly an hour. It was dark and raining heavily and we, too, lost our way. Somehow, we both made it to the village again and informed the residents,” he said.

There is something very fishy. just few Questions. How much time does it take to attend a natures call? Why could'nt the other two friends wait till he finished? is any third party involved? was he left to die with a broken leg in the forest?

Things do not add up, If it was an elephant attack then you will not have only a leg fracture. Also there must have been some noise which the other two could have heard during the elephant attack. It was not as if the elephant attacked him in his sleep??. Deeper investigation is indeed required.

The story is fine upto the point of seperation. What happened after that holds the key. After 7 p.m in the dark n in the woods, hurrying back- you break from your friends on the pretext of a nature's call?
Even in case you do, you ask them to wait don't you? Friends, wait ,don't they? In all probabilities looks like the friends knew what had happened. This brings us to their 'state' when this happened. Maybe , repeat maybe they saw something but it 'blurred'. In any case , now that it is emerging to be a case of 'elephant attack'nothing much could have been done anyhow.
Elephants as it is are now running amock in cities! They do not seem to need a second invitation.Coming across them
in their own habitat was really very tragic. May Satwik's soul rest in peace.

Couple of months back a Simoga Techie was killed by elephant at the same place.

Youths are not learning from past incidents. They ignore sign boards, warning messages too. Very sad.

May his soul rest in peace.
