Puttur: Headscarf Row - Principal Hints at Vested Interests as Protest Continues

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (NM)

Puttur, Jul 17: The students of Ramakunjeshwar College continued their demand to be allowed to wear headscarf on Monday July 16 with a silent protest.

Reacting to the protest of Muslim students, Vasanth Rao, principal of the College said that vested interests and external forces are provoking the students against the college. "They have been sowing the seed of communal disharmony in the campus," he added.

He requested the parents to send their children back to classes so that their future is not affected.

"In a bid to bring about uniformity in the campus, the management has decided to adopt  dress code and this has to be followed by all. In the name of religion, separate rules cannot be implemented, because then, communal harmony cannot be maintained, he opined.

In addition, the issue has been brought to the notice of Pejawar Swamiji, president of the college administration who has asked the management to come out with some solution, taking into consideration everybody's opinion.

The principal asked the students withdraw the protest and to attend the internal exams which begin on July 25.

Speaking to the media, a second year student of BCom said that they have been asking the management to approve headscarves in the classes. "For four days we have been boycotting classes but as we are less in number, our pleas are not heard," she said.

"We have decided to have a silent protest. The protest will go on until the college heeds to our demand," she asserted.

As the internal exams are approaching, she requested the management through the media to find a solution at the earliest. "The district administration and vice chancellor should also look into the matter," she added.

The members of Muslim central committee along with the students and their parents will discuss the issue in Athoor and DK district college administrative committee is likely to discuss the issue in Vivekananda College, Puttur, sources said.

When time comes dear children religion, cast, creed, will not help you at all but the education. So for your own good concentrate on your studies and try to reach the heights.Don't spoil your future on silly things, you are too young to carry such campaigns, leave it to your elders.

Rule is made for all. If you cant follow the rule, then get admission into where you can follow your needs. Do not join a school which has different rules and ask them to mend it within 15 day's...! Either follow the rules of the institution or get into a institution where you can follow your own rules...!!!??? These students are spoiling their own education by listening to problem creating organizations...!!!???? Although I said all this wearing scarf is a gracious dress.....As Mr. Leslie Fernandes said, it is followed in every religion..

The Sikhs were wearing the turbans from generations. The Catholic nuns also covered their heads from centuries. When they went to college, no one felt anything odd as it was accepted by everyone. Unfortunately Muslim women were not sent to colleges earlier and hence there was no problem. Now that the Muslim women are sent to colleges, which is a very good sign, the issue of head scarf should be addressed and a solution given. There is a difference between burqa and the headscarf. I understand that the Muslim girl students are asking for headscarf and not burqa. I appreciate Pejawar Swamiji the President of the college administration who has not imposed his opinion but has asked the management to solve the problem by considering everybody's opinion.

By admitting to any institution, it is deemed that the students abide the rules and regulations of that institution. Some institutions ban girls wearing bangles. If each community keeps on opposing such acts, then schools should be conducted in each of their worship places. Students are spoiling their career and the vested party's sitting safe watching the scapegoats.

Before joining any school/college, the student/parent should go through the prospectus of that institution.
If the Muslim female students start hesitating like this, in the future, no school/college run by other community will give admission to them. They have to go to Muslim management scool/colleges.

WEARING A HEAD SCARF IS NOT A PROBLEM AS LONG AS FACE IS NOT COVERED.
WE MUST RESPECT THE PEACEFUL AND HARMLESS SOCIAL PRACTISES OF ALL COMMUNITIES EVEN IF THE COLLEGE BELONGS TO THE MAJORITY COMMUNITY. I WONDER WHY THE PRINCIPAL IS MAKING AN ISSUE HERE.
WE ARE SEEING PEOPLE DRESSING HALF OR ALMOST NAKED NOW A DAYS.
WHY DON'T WE ALLOW PEOPLE TO COVER THEMSELVES IN RESPECTFUL CLOTHING?
WEARING A SCARF IS NOT LIMITED TO MUSLIM COMMUNITY ALONE.
ANYONE FROM ANY RELIGION HAS A RIGHT TO WEAR A SCARF IF DESIRED.
    EVEN CATHOLIC NUNS WEAR THEM.
WOMEN COVER THEIR HEADS WITH SAREES.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING THIS NOBLE DRESS CODE INTO RELIGIOUS PERSPECTIVES.

There are many educational institutions run by Muslim community. Why cant these people who feel burka is more important than education opt for those institutions. If they join there they can have education & enjoy their religious rights. Perhaps, some vested interests are behind scene & working to damage the communal harmony.

We have seen how burkha is missused in a day back incident in Shivbagh-Kadri Hostel. This is clearly the act of vested interest to disrupt communal harmony. If these girls wish to wear it, let them join the institutions which honours their deed or witch is upto their taste. Why join a institution & force them to act as per one's own need. Education is first in academy & religious faith is next. If one feals relious right is much more important, than he or she can opt for their own religious educational institution.

Instead of dragging this issue and giving a chance for vested interests to disrupt communal harmony, the Islamic scholers in India should come forward, and say once and for all, whether, wearing of the headscarf is required by the religion or not, based on the circumstnces.

Why does the The members of Muslim central committee, want to discuss this issue along with the students and their parents.?? Are they ignorant of the religion and dont they know what the religion says about it.??

These un important things show, the religion which is based God`s directions in a poor light.

At school and college level, students should be taught communal harmony and I am sure students does not have this kind of communal feelings or differences in their mind.
Now a days we see lot of politics being played by external groups involving students and causing disharmony among them and against the management and teachers. Parents should talk to their children to stay away from these groups and give their time and energy more on their studies.

Why so much of fuss from the administration of the college. Headscarves can be allowed to the students as many of the colleges allow the same. Even in other countries this is allowed, but not burkha. The management should consider it with thorough findings, otherwise this will lead to communal agenda. Ultimately, being a democratic country we have to live in harmony with all walks of people.

We never heard of such issues prior to the BJP rule in Karnataka. This is a deliberate attempt by BJP and the Sangh Parivar to create communal disharmony in our otherwise peaceful society. There should be uniform policy on head scarfs all over India. Each and every school cannot have their own policy. We are a secular and democratic country and such religious fanatics should not be allowed to play with the sentiments of the minority communities like sikhs, muslims and christians.
