Mangalore: Three Students Seriously Injured as Car Crashes into Electric Pole

Mangalore, Jul 22: Three students of AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences sustained severe injuries when the car in which they were traveling rammed into the electric pole near Pandith House, Thokottu, on Saturday July 21.

It is learnt that the accident occurred when the students were on their way back to Mangalore after attending the late night weekend party at Deralakatte.




















The three youths have been identified as Jubin Baby Abraham, Shaheen and Praveen Prakash, students of AB Shetty College.

Driver Abraham lost control over the car and hit the electric pole near Pandith House. The residents in the area were left without electricity due to the accident.

The injured have been admitted to Thokkottu Hospital.

    Good one ! What Mr.Dinesh Pai means / implies is that the ' electric pole came in the way of the car ' and not that the errant driver smashed into it , going off the road and at top speed.Mr.Dinesh Pai, you have a good sense of humour !!

    It is not the fault of the driver or occupants .It is the fault of MESCOM to have erected that particular pole in that particular place !

    Hope the occupants are recovering well in hospital.

    These  boys think they are heroes and drink and drive cars looking at girls.They come here to enjoy instead of studying and  wasting their parent's hard earned money! What a national waste! Such people should not be given admission in colleges ! I am sure they will have poor track record in studies also.Look at the car accident in front of a girl's school in mangalore that driver was also a 17 yr old ! Heroes they are,better they should be sent to border to show their heroics!!!

    Mangalore Traffic rule has to be change & bring strict rule against drink & drive, rash driving, overtake, negligence, Drive without DL.
    1. Drink & Drive-Seize their Driving Licence & permanently blacklist their identity & not allow to apply new DL.
    2.Rash driving, overtake, negligence driving should give them severe punishment like high amount of fines & seize the vehicle.
    Western traffic rule is very strict than our traffic rule.

    This will happen everywhere. A Driver lost control...
    Many time people loose control on their own body parts like tongue, hands etc... which hurts others. Unfortunately here it is electric pole....

    Where is the number plate of the car? I won't be surprised if the car is registered in Kerala. In Mangalore one day we will have more of Kerala registered vehicle's, which are a big nuisance in the city. RTO should please look in to this matter.

    I think the driver Abraham was driving at high speed and probably drunk as all the other occupants were returning from a late night party. I wish speedy recovery of the injured. Dayanand Kukkaje, the pictures were touching and sad. I think arter hitting the electric pole it must rolled down.

    Squarely blame the parents or their guardians / wards. Children are innocent. Its the parents who gave a deadly unwanted item, call it weapon now (see the blood around), in their child's hand. They had gone to study or partying???

    MANGALOREAN... This is not Western culture but atypical INDIAN culture.

    The problem is where the generation like YOU are headed. The fatalities are highest in INDIA as there is no ROAD culture. People drive anywhere and everywhere even on one way street, No stopping even at pedestrian walks, wrong side, blast horn for NO reason, etc

    So stop blaming other cultures and point the finger at yourself & like minded people.

    Not everyone who attends a party would be drunk. And nowhere in this topic its metioned that these students were drunk.
    Do not blame western culture.
    If so, then what about "country" liquor and cashew fenny, these were introduced to the englishmen by our own people. and you say its western culture.
    Whats our culture, molesting a 19 year old..? sick....

    So this is the effect of drink and drive? Our traffic rules are so liberal and offender can get away even if he has killed somebody banging his vehicle. I don't care about these youngsters. Just hope they don't create problem for other's. They are grown up enough and know what is good and bad. Drink and drive, over speeding is the fashion nowadays. Can RTO do some thing to curb this menance? or they will just let them go as they belong to rich families? Poor locals had to suffer without electricity. God save poor people.
