Mangalore, Jul 27: The CPI(M) Mangalore city unit protested against the amount of Rs 30 to be paid for the garbage collection from each house, in front of the Mangalore City Corporation office in Lalbagh, on Friday July 27.

A memorandum was also submitted to the commissioner of MCC by the committee, duly signed by Sunil Kumar Bajal, secretary, CPI(M).

Adressing the gathering, Bajal said, “Today they collect Rs 30, later it will be increased to Rs 200 or Rs 300. If garbage is not collected for four or five days, it starts stinking. MCC has promised to make the city a garbage-free city like Singapore, by collecting garbage from every house, but it is not possible from this authority. Central Market seems like Pacchanady dumping yard. MCC, which is now under BJP rule, has completely failed in the process of garbage maintenance”.

Speaking on other issues, he said, “A number of diseases have been spreading daily in the city. This is mainly due to the negligence of the MCC, not the general public. MCC is spending crores on unwanted things like installation of CC camera and meeting hall renovation, instead why not focus on these sort of projects to improve waste management and stop spreading of diseases like malaria and dengue. Mangaluru Nagara Palike has become Mangaluru Naraka Palike. People are fed up of the BJP’s rule”.

Vasanth Achary, Yogish Jeppinamogaru, Imthiyaz, Jayanthi Shetty, Santosh Bajal, Musthafa, B M Madava, and Prasanna were present at this protest.
