Udupi, Kundapur Join Hands Against Mangalore Home Stay Attackers, Demand Action

Udupi, Jul 31: Various organizations, individuals and students joined hands on Monday July 30 to protest against the attack on youngsters at a resort in Mangalore, and express their solidarity in demanding action against the culprits. Colleges across the district remained closed.

District women Congress president Veronica Cornelio, at a press meet demanded clear explanations from the BJP on the incident, and said that it should have control on the things that are going on. "If it fails to control such incidents, it shows the government's failure," she said.

The present situation in Mangalore is such that women get neither respect nor protestcion. This should change, and severe punishment should be meted out to the culprits.

"When there was a rave party at Malpe the same people raised no question. They are not bothered about the the pubs in Manipal either. At the Malpe rave party, drugs were found. It was a grave mistake from the government," she said.

"People give the excused that today's children are spoilt, but that is not the way to deal with it. Beating girls and boys like this is not Indian culture, and it should stop," she said.

 

Media's action right, will be rewarded - Janardhan Poojary

Congress leader Janardhan Poojary addressed a press meet and lauded the media for bringing the incident before the world. 

"What the media did was right. If mediapersons were not there, the culprits would be roaming around and only the girls would have been the losers," he said.

He referred to Naveen Soorinje, one of the journalists booked for abetting the attack, and said that Soorinje only went to check after he got an anonymous call regarding the incident. "He tried the calling the police, but got no response, and could not do anything but shoot the video," he said.

He announced a reward of Rs 10,000 to the journalists who were involved in the incident, for exposing the culprits and bringing them before the world.

He also demanded that the FIR filed against the two journalists should be taken back. "Police are interpreting the situation in the wrong way, as their image is tarnished," he said.

He urged the people to unite and fight for justice.



Youth Congress

The members of Youth Congress led by president Amrit Shenoy, vice-president Yogish Karkera Alevoor block member Harish Kini and Mithun Amin blocked roads to stage their proest.

They alleged that the BJP is trying woo Hindus by bringing Hindutva issues to the limelight through this incident as elections are approaching.

"If their intention is pure, they should punish the culprits," they said.

They too pointed out that no action was taken regarding the Malpe rave party, and that the late minister Dr V S Acharya had said that nothing had happened at Malpe. "But when the things that happened came to light, he had nothing to say," the protestors said.
 
"If such incidents continue and the culprits are let free, the public will take law into their hands and won't leave them alive," he warned.

 

Kaup

Kaup block Congress committee staged a protest in Kaup town, near here, on Monday July 30 to condemn the atrocities on students in a home stay facility at Morning Mist, located at Padil, by the activists of a communal outfit on Saturday July 28.
 
The Congress activists urged the state police chief and the court to nab all the accused involved in disgracing the modesty of girls and thrashing the boys who were celebrating a birthday.
 
Kaup block Congress committee president Gangadhar Suvarna, legislative assembly youth Congress president Naveen K Shetty, Kaup block youth Congress president Abdul Aziz Hejamady, Congressmen Veerendra Shetty Shirva, Nagesh Suvarna, Prabhakar Poojary, M P Moidinabba, Kaup Leeladar Shetty, H Abdulla, and K M Lutfulla were present on the occasion.

KPCC Taluk Unit Demands Action Against Miscreants in Attack on Youth

Kundapur, Jul 31: The taluk unit of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), staged a protest in front of Shastry Circle on Monday July 30 to condemn the barbarous attack on partying girls and boys at ‘Morning Mist’, the home stay facility located at Padil on Saturday July 28, by the activists of a communal outfit.

The KPCC members said that in the wake of rising cases of rape, kidnapping, and killings across the state, the people are extremely worried over the safety of their teenage children who are studying in education institutions, employed women, and others who had to venture out to earn their living.
 
The taluk unit of KPCC urged the law enforcement agencies to arrest the accused in the Morning Mist case and imprison them. They said that it would indeed boost the general trust in law enforcement agencies and also cautioned that aggravated protests will be held if there is anymore delay in this regard.

KPCC taluk unit secretary Shyamala Bhandary, president Shivaram Shetty Malyady, town Congress president Ganesh Sherigar, and secretary Vinod Crasto were present on the occasion.
