Mangalore, Jul 31: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) meeting held at the zilla panchayat hall here on Tuesday July 31 witnessed much chaos and confusion.

The meeting was held to discuss development works in the city, but instead, and perhaps as expected, the July 28 HJV attack on young boys and girls at a Padil resort hogged all the attention.

Trouble erupted when Jayanti C Shetty, Jelligudde corporator belonging to the communist party, called the attackers belonging to Hindu Janajagarana Vedike as 'Sangh Parivar' goons.

BJP corporators took exception to Jayanti's statement and began a flash protest. Angered at her comment, the BJP members demanded that she either be expelled from the meeting or apologize unconditionally.

Corporators Mariyamma Thomas, Abdul Aziz, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, and other  Congress members came to Jayanti's support.

Arguments and counter arguments were made, and finally they reached a compromise and the meeting resumed.

However, in the course of the meeting, Jayanti made the same statement once again and the whole scene was repeated. The meeting had to be adjourned no further disussions were held.

During the meeting, corporator Naveen D'Souza said that illegal home stays and such other accomodations are in various parts of the city, and that the deputy commissioner along with the police should trace them and take suitable action.

Corporators Appi and Ashok expressed concern over the fact that several such instances have been reported in the city, indicating that there's not enough protection for girls in the city. They said that this matter should be taken seriously so that such incidents do not repeat in the future.

Former mayor Shashidhar Hegde addressed the meeting and said, "Let us not quarrel among ourselves. We will work together with the district administration and find a solution."

He also said that it was wrong on the part of the police to arrest Mohan Padil as he is a corporator and it was his duty to rush to the spot of the incident. Mohan Padil was released soon after.

On the role of the media, the general opinion in the meeting was that though media was wrong in shooting the video of the incident, FIR should not have been filed against the two journalists.

A letter was submitted to mayor Gulzar Banu on the occasion, stating that MCC condemns the attack on the Morning Mist Home Stay resort, wherein the activists misbehaved and treated the girls cruelly. "The incident has brought shame to Mangalore and we urge the government to arrest all the persons responsible, and punish them severely."

Even after the meeting, the BJP corporators staged a protest and shouted slogans against Jayanti's statement.

Mayor Gulzar Banu, deputy mayor Amithakala, MCC commissioner Harish Kumar, corporators Shakila Kava, Sudhir Shetty, Tilak Raj, Shankar Bhat, Vijaykumar Shet, Deepak Kumar, Ashok D K, Nagendra and others were present.

First of all a thorough investigation needs to be conducted and the list of activists of all the orgainisation with finger prints needs to be maintained by the police for security... Periodical observations of their meeting needs to be monitored periodically by the state administaration and the mind set they make to create such acts ... the reason behind it , the finance, what is the reason to feel proud doing such acts.. where they spend theier evenings and their movement in groups needs to be notified by the the help of cc tv ....an effort to also needs to be made by meeting them by the learned people and try to change their minds corrupted by drugs liquor and infulence of false culture....this will take time and they should be taught to value the life of others...

Even after that if they are found with same attitude then criminal cases have to be booked against them should be debarred from the city permanently . . here it looks like the chief of hjv was earlier involved in many attacks and extortion so his idea of becoming a member of HJV is nothing but to take cover for his criminal activities through politicicans...It is for the RSS as well too not to talk nonsence to much about religion and culture and work on the broader aspects like stopping Miss India, Porn book mafia, Internet porn mafia, and there are lot of social issues going on in difference places instead of creation hatred among Indians and try to devide the country on religious norms for their selfish goals.. the multicultural India can flourish only if it remains united.

If they were not Sangh Parivaar goons, Can anyone explain why was Mr. Franklin Monteiro, of BJP minority post, doing with HJV activists in front of D.C office when they were protesting to release their members arrested by the cops.

Now I understand why the MLA and MP fight at Legislative Assembly and Parliament. They learn this at low level itself. It is just a continuation of the process. Why can’t they sit down and use the microphone to convey their views. The pictures show that there is chaos at the meeting and how the general public can expect good governance from these leaders.

Mangalore would'nt have reached this stage if these so called coportators would have worked in Unity , Mohan Padil reaching the spot is termed as some great act as if he reached top peak to Mt Everest , what did Mohan Padil do once he reached the spot .. Stopped the cops from taking action for 15 Min and enjoy the show . Divide Mangalore saying Sonia is Italian and Christian and MMS is not an hindu , then go and beat people who are belonging to your own community . Excellent Culture , it ' Goons ' is not the right word we can replace it with 'Goondas'.

If these goonns do not belong to Sangh....where the courage is drawn by moral police? BJP has supported them always. If BJP had opposed moral policing....there would have been peace in Mangalore! It is an open secret that same moral police were involved in church attack and pub attack. Looks like state ruling party protected them. Had they been punished, Mangalore image would have been better.
