Ajman, Aug 1: A high profile team of delegates representing the Health Professions Council Of South Africa (HPCSA) led by Professor Tholene Sodi, vice president of HPCSA and South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) led by Bada Pharasi, president of SAPC respectively visited the Gulf Medical University (GMU) to discuss the minimum requirements for registration and scopes of practice for graduating medical, dental and  pharmacy students and to inspect and give advice on the respective programs and its compliance with the South African Medical / Dental / Pharmacy programme requirements. 

The visiting delegates were accorded a warm welcome by the Provost, professor Gita Ashok Raj and the deans and directors of respective academic units of GMU.

A series of meetings were hosted between the visiting delegates and the GMU academic team. The delegates were presented details of the MBBS, DMD and PharmD programs offered by GMU followed by a visit to the various departments and other physical facilities.  The visiting delegates were highly impressed with the global composition of the university community made up of an international faculty drawn from 22 countries and a student cohort from 63 countries.

Both the health professions council of South Africa and South African pharmacy council teams were very impressed with the curricula and training provided by the Gulf Medical University and have expressed that this will facilitate the registration of medical, dental, pharmacy and allied health science graduates to register with the respective councils in South Africa for practice in the country in the future.
