Udupi: Red Cross Society Holds Rally to Mark Geneva Convention Day

Udupi Aug 14: A large number of students and Red Cross Society members participated in a procession through the city led by the Udupi district branch of Indian Red Cross Society to venerate ‘Geneva Convention Day’ here on Tuesday August 14.

Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister for muzrai, inland water transport and port, inaugurated the rally by letting free a dove as a symbol of peace. He said it was a great move by the Red Cross and congratulated the organizers. He accompanied the rally till the court.

The procession started near the taluk office and passed through Court Road, Diana Circle and culminated at Board High School.

Red Cross Society also launched fund raising programme for undertaking welfare activities. Students collected funds from nearby shops. They called upon the people to contribute liberally for a more humanitarian cause.

Basrur Rajeev Shetty (Vice Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State) Dr Madhusudan Hegde, (governor  of Lions Dist.317-C ) and Ln Suresh Prabhu (vice district Governor for Lions 317-C) were present.
