Mangalore, Aug 17: On August 14, KORWA(Konkan Oversees Returnees Welfare Association) hosted their annual general body meeting as well as the association’s first anniversary at Don Bosco Mini Hall, Mangalore.
The programme began at 5.30 pm with a prayer recited by Fr Melwyn D’Cunha (ex Kuwait).
President Louis Lobo welcomed all members and expressed his joy at the whole-hearted support of the members towards KORWA. He said, KORWA was able to help many needy people within a span of one years time and this was made possible only because of members continued support as well as many well-wishers financial support which KORWA received so far.
He requested each and every member to work in the same way and allow KORWA to conduct many more events in Mangalore and gather funds to help the poor people.
General Secretary Jessy Pinto in her speech explained in detail all the events conducted place throughout the year such as on December 18, 2011, Christmas Tree function was organized at the St Aloysius College auditorium and on February 26, 2012, the committee visited Moodbelle.
On their return back from Moodbelle, the committee visited Manasa Rehabitation and training centre for handicap children. At the spot the committee members managed to collect Rs 7200 which was handed-over to the in charge. Fruits and sweets were also distributed by the members.
An invitation by Ronald Sabi D’Souza to his Hill Top Party Spot was also obliged during the year. And an invitation by Commodore Jerome Castelino to visit his home and the War Memorial he has built in his court yard in the memory of those soldiers who laid down their life during the Goa Liberation 1961 and Bangladesh Liberation 1971 wars .
On July 1, a visit to the Sawvedana HIV Centre (Pumpwell, Mangalore) was time well spent with children by singing and spreading joy. Thereafter, a Sunday special lunch and sweets to all children and staff (70 Nos) was distributed. Children whose birthday’s was in the same month received cash prizes.
On the occasion of Independence Day , the children of St Joseph Kannada Medium School, Nanthoor received school bags, lunch plates and cups for all students from first standard till VII standard.
Jessy Pinto thanked all the well-wishers of KORWA and specially Dr Eugene D’Souza, Principal of Moodbelle College, Commodore Jerome Castelino of Moodbelle and Ronald Saby D’Souza, Dubai for their excellent support towards KORWA from the beginning.

David Dsouza conducted the raffle draw, the lucky member of the day John Fernandes (ex Saudi) proclaimed the winner and received the prize donated by the president Louis Lobo.
Melvyn D’Cunha expressed his views and appreciated all the wonderful works KORWA is doing in Mangalore. He requested the members to continue the good work towards the poor people and in turn receive the blessings from Almighty. He also said that the members could always rely on him for his support.
There was 15 minutes time for open discussions and few members expressed their views which were appreciated by all.
Elias Santis gave the vote of thanks and expressed his happiness on being a part of KORWA and said that he has been receiving a lot of appreciation about KORWA.
