Mangalore: Jaago Mangalore Association Calls Off Protest Against Home Stay Attack

Media Release

Mangalore, Aug 18: Jaago Mangalore Association, which had planned a massive protest on August 21 against the recent home stay incident, has called off the campaign.

The following is the statement issued by Vijaynath Shetty, chief co-ordinator, Jaago Mangalore Association, regarding the protest campaign against Padil attack:

“Following the recent developments regarding our protest campaign against Padil attack, I met the police commissioner this morning (August 18) and again sought his clearance for our planned protest march and protest meet on August 21. However, the commissioner expressed his unwillingness to grant permission for the protest explaining that the issue was getting hot and the police force would be unable to handle any untoward law and order situation that might arise during the protest.

"Our movement was meant to be a civilized and peaceful protest with the main objective being to express strong disapproval against violence, especially violence against women. As Jaago Mangalore Association has no intention to break the law or create public nuisance in order to voice our protest, I regret to inform all concerned that as of now, the protest planned for August 21 stands cancelled.

"I thank all members of the public, and also most importantly, the media for following us on this issue and I am sure with your support we have made our point absolutely clear. Through this I once again urge everyone to shun violence and help create a better Mangalore to live. Jaago Mangalore Association will continue to work for the cause of better Mangalore in the future.”

In first place itself I had suspicious about this organization. This clearly indicates that this org. is NOT JAAGO but this is SOJAO MANGALORE ASSO.

I AM 100% SURE THAT THIS ASSOCIATION IS MADE TO DERAIL JUSTICE TO HOME STAY ATTACKERS!!!

IT'S NOW LEFT TO MY DEAR MANGALOREANS TO DECIDE...

As per primary report of the incident there were 30-40 attackers, but so far only 22 persons have been arrested. What about other attackers? They must be roaming around city freely & mocking our law and order system.

    Mr. Vijaynath Shetty, Mangalore
You have withdrawn your protest... at least follow up on this case and make sure arrested culprits gets punishment for their cruel deeds.

We got independence in 1947 not because we broke the law and fought, but simply because Britain was almost bankerupt after the war. they did not want a liability called india. Our "independence" leaders just broke this country into peices for their own sake.

Dear Vijaynath Shetty, Mangalore. Read your message.

Being the authorites have refused to grant permission for street protest,u have withdrawn the protest. But other options & alternatives are still available like hunger strike for 3 days or 5 days, collction of signatures by the like minded citizens sgainst the atrocities committed to these girls by the goonda attackers and many more positive ways.

Withdrawing street protest due to unavailability of permisssion, based on your information is OK but if you have decided completely giving a full stop, then we feel we have been let down the community who are fighting for justice.

Every citizen in this country have a mother/ sister /daughter. If they have been attacked by the same goondas, what is one's reaction?

Dear Mr.Vijaynath ,brave indeed...In fact , its quite endearing to see the steps OR actions taken by you. Mr.vijayanath is a man with good intentions. Always has the GOOD of society at heart, LET THERE BE NO DOUBT about it.BUT unfortunately HE has to put up with this WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOM...The reasons can be understood. Be it the DVS WITHDRAWAL OR the HOME STAY WITHDRAWAL....BOTH ARE Politically SENSITIVE ISSUES.BUT..What Has to be LAUDED, CHEERED is Mr.Vijayanaths ,SPIRIT & COURAGE to Bell The Cat..!!!bekkige gante kattidhavaru yaaru?? adhu namma vijayanath..that credit has to be given. He is feeling the pinch from this ''BUDDHIVANTHARA JILLE''.,many people have money, BUT mr.Vijayanath has some inner voice that is directing him to do certain things,& BE TRUE to OUR CULTURE. Being from OUTSIDE, He is innocent of the ways of this District. ITS in fact an advantage. No One can Question his sincerity. My dear Vijayanath, IT is NOT a COMPROMISE..you have done the RIGHT THING. SO WHAT if you have WITHDRAWN..? YOU KNOW you did the RIGHT thing..YOUR FIGHT IS NOT with individuals OR the POLICE..OR the GOVERNMENT..ITS YOUR EFFORT TO MAKE people AWARE !! AM I right MR.Vijayanath??You GOT peoples ATTENTION towards a CAUSE. JOB DONE.MISSION ACCOMPLISHED..NOW please keep a Watchdog committee to see ..!! YOUR EYES SHOW YOUR SINCERITY,[ saw you on T.V.] it is not simply ''BUNTARA ABBARA'' like one of my bunt friend was telling sometime back.I am sure NOTHING..NO THING will hold you back in going ahead with your voice of CONSCIENCE..inner voice..GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS !! love.....jds will meet you sometime Mr.vijaynath

I think we should start our protest with other major issues like bad roads, harrassment by MUDA and their middlemen for site approvals, bad city planning etc which are bothering each and every common public rather than 'resort victims' who are only in small number.

The Police Commissioner is violating the citizens constitutional right of Freedom of Expression. For peaceful protest, one need only to inform the police and not necessary wait for their permission. It is their duty to take control of law and order without infringing the rights of citizens.

Thanks for the bouquets as well as the brickbats. I know it is disappointing, for me as well as to those who supported us, to call off the protest. But we really have no choice as we have been denied police permission. There was no external pressure on us. To defy and still go ahead would mean breaking the law and how will that make us different from the anti-social elements whom we have set out to denounce? The important thing is to keep the issue alive until justice is done.

I am glad our protest has been able to make a dent. It is said that eternal vigilance is the price of democracy. As a community, we all should keep performing this role in different ways and from time to time and ensure that there is no more repetition of such incidents. Thank you one and all. Let’s make Mangalore a better place to live.

Protest ! Enquiry! Blame game! Counter claims!, when is this ‘morning mist’ fiasco going to end !!!!. Each and every day there is a protest by some certain group or party who wants to hog the lime light with this sort of publicity, the guilty are in custody and await the courts verdict. What else is required? Mate, why don’t you raise your voice for more burning issues, the desecration of the ‘Amar Jawan’ memorial, it’s a kick on the heart of the countries pride & the guilty are still at large.

Timely action by police commissioner. This incident is gone out of proportion.I am afraid if allowed to continue it will definitely go out of control and might lead to communal riot.Fact finding report had clearly shown us who is at fault and it is the duty of the court to take appropriate action. Thanks to the media .Along with DW other media also have done excellent job.It has very clearly shown us even with the rumors it will not go easy.Let us forget about the past and join hands together once again and work towards the betterment of Mangalore.

Can't believe you Vijay. Why dId you bow be a strong leader with daring. Compromise for not at fault is a looser man. Police, politicians are useless in Mangalore can't even trust them. Instead serving public they serve goondas, corrupt officials, life is uncertain in Mangalore. I still remember the church attacks which is very sad towards Christians never should have happend even in thier dreams but happend with these idiots. We need mumbai police in Mangalore. They are much better than Mangalore police who is good for nothing . Mumbai police much better to analyze the situation and come to conclusion within a reasonable time frame. Look at Mangalore they don't even have such skills to make decision on what is right and wrONG. In Church attack CATHOLIC YOUTH WERE AT FAULT PER POLICE AND THE ATTACKERS WERE AT RIGHT PATH. ANYBODY CAN BELEIVE SUCH STATMENTS. SHAME ON THEE GUYS. THEY MAKE WRONG AS RIGHT.

Very sad to know the news of denial for protest march by Police Officials. The reasons given are baseless. If so, dear Police Officials, you should not give permission to any organisations, religious organisations, and even political parties to stage any protest programmes hereafter. We are surprised whether we are in democratic country or autocrat rule. People should think about this. Mr. Shetty should not have taken, back step and should fought for the matter.

At this juncture any kind of protest is uncalled for. A good decision from the Police Commissionor itself,Mangalore need a Peaceful atmosphere for a while.

    Dear sir Vijayanath,
I have been following your achievement on this website since long. Thank you for doing something to the society.
But I am disapointed the way you gave up the protest.
peaceful Protest is birth right of every Indians. No way police can refuse for protest. I am affraid, you have made compromise with iether police or organisations of Mangalore who support girls's bashing.

Sir, you had announced protest against the outser of DV Sadananda Gowda from CM seat. But within two days, you called off !!!

Again you announced protest for Homestay issue, you made 'arrest' drama and now you called off !

I am affraid that, if you announce any more protest in mangalore, you may not even get 50% of support from your followers.

Please be a brave leader, stay away from publicity and continue good work to the society.

request daijiworld not to give too much publicity for organisations who do the job only for publicity
Thank you. Your website has huge following worldwide.

Why is the commissioner of police not supporting peaceful protest against the unruly elements of society?...does it not speak volumes of the state of affairs in Mangalore?
My advice to Vijaynath Shetty and his team is to get innovative.....organise an inter-collegiate collage exhibition on social evils in Mangalore where students can express themselves against these incidents. Invite the commissioner, Ms Manjula(SWC)and politicians that rule to inaugurate the event with full media coverage.

there has been so many protests since the begining of this incidents of which some of them are against & some of them are for for this incidents, other than blaming each other no fare result has come out so far & i think it'll become a never ending story.
