Mangalore: Dr M V Shetty Trust Organizes Get-together for North-East Students

Media Release

Mangalore, Aug 22: "Students studying in Mangalore must focus on their studies and take the examinations and not leave the city", said Dr M Ramgopal Shetty, founder secretary of Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust.

Dr Shetty was speaking at a programme held to celebrate Id-Ul-Fitr at the Dr M V Shetty College campus in the city on Sunday August 19.

He said that the students, who had come to Mangalore for studies from distant parts of the country should have faith in Dakshina Kannada and its people. The University, the education department, and the college have taken upon themselves the responsibility of the safety of the students.

"Here, the administration is backing you. Take the advice of seniors, authorities and attend classes, study in the library if you want. Take courage and continue your studies", he said.

Dr Shetty appreciated the students for having the courage to stay back despite the panic. Those who had gone home would find their families glad to have them back but after a week, they would have to return to college. They had left without checking if it was rumour. "You have to stay back and finish your studies. Then you are a free bird, decide where you want to stay", he told the students, many of whom were from North-East India.

U T Khader, MLA told the students that ups and downs are part of life. They should face challenges with courage and learn to deal with them. "Do not lose your future to rumors", he said. He told them that there was nothing to worry about in Mangalore and the students should be ambassadors of the Northeast in Mangalore and ambassadors of Mangalore in North-East.

Dr Urmila Shetty, trustee, Dr M V Shetty Memorial Trust said the students should trust the authorities as they will ensure their safety. "Do not become pawns and puppets in someone else's game plan, whover it is", she said.

M Muthuraya, deputy commisssioner of police (law and order) said, "You can study, you can work, you can reside anywhere in India. Don't give importance to rumours". The police are always ready to protect the people and will respond to them at anytime. He told the students, "Let there be no insecuirty in your minds. You will be safe in Mangalore city."
