Mangalore: Yuva Janapad Utsav Celebrated at St Aloysius College

Mangalore, Aug 24: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy in collaboration with St Aloysius College Konkani Sangh organized Yuva Janapad Utsav here at St Aloysius College auditorium on Friday August 24.

Fr Walter Andrade, finance officer of St Aloysius College inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. The Gumat was also played by Kasargod Chinna as a sign of inaugural.

Sathish Bhat, principal of Canara College, Anitha Kini, advocate, Devdas Pai, registrar of Konkani Sahitya Academy, Roy Castelino, Sevrin Pinto, president of SAC Konkani Sangh, Wilma Cutinha and Sr Preetha Menezes shared the dais.

Kasargod Chinna in his presidential address said that the youth must play an important role in enriching the culture and asked them to take forward the Konkani language to the next generation. Knowledge of regional history and culture is vital, he added.

He stressed on the role of teachers in school and colleges. They play a pivotal role in grooming the behavior and talents of students, he said.

Congratulating the organizers of the programme, he said everyone should be proud of the Konkani language and asked them to contribute towards its prosperity. He asked the Konkani Sangh of the college to organize more related Konkani activities to enrich the culture by extending their support.

Sathish Bhat marked the importance of Konkani language. He said these days folks have forgotten the ancestral language and more attention is being given to modern technology. He asked the students to be proud of their mother tongue and said that it is their responsibility to preserve it.

Fr Walter Andrade and Anitha Kini also spoke on the occasion.

On the occasion, Br Prathik Rayan D’Souza from St Aloysius College, Ramesh Kamath from Canara College, Ancita Carol D’Souza from Padua College and Vernon D’Souza from SDM College were honored by the dignitaries for their contribution.

After the formal stage programme, students staged various performances on Konkani culture based on the theme ‘Janapad utsav’. Dhandia Dance, Mando, Catholic marriage tradition and various other entertainment.

Roy Castelino welcomed the audience, Roshan compered and Sevrin Pinto delivered vote of thanks.

Stany Alvares, president of Mandd Sobhan, Vitori Karkal, Ashok Shet, Mahesh R Nayak, Puttur Chidanandh Kamath among others were present.
