Udupi Aug 27: The issue of ration cards dominated at the eleventh general body meeting of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat here on Saturday August 25.
Raising the issue, Women Congress President Veronica Cornelio, said that a clear information needs to be given to the public through media or panchayth and that the addition and deletion of the members in the Ration card, or the corrections will be a continuous process.
Veronica questioned the existing rule to render a small change as the rest of the family members should be present in the Taluk panchayat to provide their thumb impression and photograph. This is a difficult task for the public. For which Arun Kumar (food and civil supply department Official) said that it is a state government order to use a software which we follow and he or the staff cannot change the rules.
In the same issue, once the correction happens in a ration card and mistakes still exist then a re –correction is possible, but only after finishing some basic stages. All of this requires time and Arun appealed to people to have patience. Mobile numbers are taken from the applicant so any reforms or changes will be informed through messages he added.
Ragupathy Bhat (MLA) said that all these steps are necessary to avoid duplication of the ration card, it might feel a difficult task now but later this will be the best scheme implemented by the government. But the government will make measures on the special cases like handicapped or deceased members to take the laptop to such houses and acquire their information, although it will take time for it to be implemented.
The major problem is also because deficiency of staff in the food and civil supply department at the Taluk Panchayath. Around 69 gram Panchayath people are depend on the existing staffs of taluk Panchayath. The MLA said he will write to the government asking to increase the staff so that people would have to wait for a shorter time at the queue.
Under Basava Vasathy Youjana and Indira Awaz –Housing aid for poor, Nimathi organizations will be shut down soon and instead Nadakachri will take the stand which will directly work under revenue department.
Whoever has constructed a house in the akrama area before March 31 2012 will automatically become sakrama houses and the houses built after March 31 will be given notice and removed from the concern places.
Mobile canteens which possess licenses can carry out the business in the panchayath or township but such canteens will not be allowed to stay in a particular spot and continue business permanently. Such as illegal shops will be strictly removed in the district soon.
