Udupi, Aug 28: The CMC (Udupi City Municipal Council) meeting  concentrated on debating the issue of the plastic ban in the city on Tuesday August 28.
 
Udupi CMC president Kiran Kumar said that use of plastic carry bags will be completely banned in the city limits from September 15.

"Udupi has always been attractive with its beachs and tourist spots, so it is the responsibility of the public to keep the city clean. Maintain the name ‘Temple city’, as per government rules below 40 micro plastic should not be used at all for any reason and above 40 Micro plastic ban will depend on the state or district.  Examples like Goa, Ooty, Mysore and Madikkeri have banned all kind of plastic." Kiran Kumar said.
 
"Jobs must be given to associations involved with creating better bags like the  mahila abhivrudhi sangha to make paper/nylon bags " he said

For the above statements some counter claims were raised by few members such as before banning the plastic bag it is important to find a better solution for the same like if the city has enough paper it can make nylon bags if not make arrangements for the same before implementing the rule.
 
Time should be given to the people to get adjusted with the rule. It is also important to make the people understand the consequences of using plastic than just banning it without the knowledge, which also can irritate the public.

Bhujanga Park and Poora Bhavana will be inaugurated by the CM end of September or October first week, Kiran Kumar announced.
 
There was also a discussion on government and religious buildings coming up without the permission of the CMC. For which he said that the permission is definitely required and he will look into the issue.
