Bangalore: Kannada Actor Arjun Arrested for Harassing Wife

Bangalore, Aug 30 (PTI): Kannada film actor Arjun was on Wednesday August 29 arrested for allegedly harassing his wife of 11 years, for the past several months, police said.

Arjun, 34, has two daughters with Latashri and was arrested on a complaint from her, they said.

Arjun had been accused of allegedly harassing his wife both physically and mentally for several months under the influence of alcohol.

Latashri claimed that she has been living with her parents for the past three months as she was unable to bear his torture.

Last night, Arjun came to his father-in-law's house allegedly in a drunken state and had a fight with the security guard. He verbally abused him and also Latashri.

The actor was produced before a local court and has been remanded to judicial custody.

It is unbelievable how U accuse me of instigating, wanting to control my husband & keep him away from his family. Do you know me - isn't it arrogant of you to judge and label a person the way you have in your cheap comments towards me????

You call me dinosaur brained - I do not want to stoop to your level and start name calling because your opinion is different from mine. As U r intelligent, U may know it already, it takes more strength and courage to not do what you are doing and so I will be the stronger one - women are known for their strength you know.. ask your mom or sisters and they can attest to it:))) I love families and believe in the family unit & also extended families. I LOVE THE CULTURE I AM PART OF, but I am not afraid of calling a spade a spade. As I said re-read my post and I hope you understand what I am saying. It looks like you or someone in your family was sent to jail by someone (I cud be wrong, but it seems that way from how bitter you are).
Knowledge is power. God made man and woman different (physically and emotionally) and they don't replace each other, but complement each other. As you may know, there are other dynamics that make a relationship successful. what worked once upon a time doesn't work now because things have changed. Teachers cannot hbeait children in schools (isn't there a law about it - you wud know the IPC code for that:)) while they could when we grew up. Freedom is not suppressing a group, but making sure everyone is safe while being who they are. And yes, women want to be included and part of their husband's household. Once married that is their family and they should be treated like family and not like outsiders. If that is being feminist, then I am and I am not ashamed of it. God Bless you Ethan. I guess U shud re-read my post before commenting. If a woman cannot claim her right to safety (shud be a basic right) esp. in her own home, where else can she be safe?? Why am I being called a feminist for pointing this out? Are u saying if a man beats up a man he can go to the police and seek justice, but a woman cannot do the same?

Are you saying that being instigated is reason to hit someone? People can let anything instigate them. Will you say the same if it happens to your sister, or daughter??? You have instigated me by your comments, can I come and hit you? Are we civilized people or animals???

What about the hundreds and thousands of women that have committed suicide because of abuse? How come you are talking about men committing suicide (I agree,I do not know the stats that you are talking about, however even your self claimed 'intelligent mind can estimate that the atrocities against women in India are more than those on men .. . This Mental Manja must have taken cue from our mental Kaati Ganesh Poojary & Mental Subhash Padil Shetty of Homestay Attack. Only difference is Kaati & Padil did not have guts to beat their own wife or daughter, hence they had to beat outside girls.

My response was to Dinesh poojary's comments. We do know that it is still man's era (how can we forget). My point is that it shouldn't be Men's or women's era, but it should be an era of peace and respect regardless of gender. Men have always been the preferred gender - are you arguing that???

Why are the men so threatened when now women can also claim their rights? This is now possible because women are educated - in many marriages,the woman is more educated than the man which itself is a threat to man- self imposed in many cases because in a man's mind woman is lower than him. Please note that I do not mean to generalize. I have grown up seeing men with character who have treated women with respect and encouraged them to be what they can be. But I have also seen LOTS of men who are threatened by a woman's success and the only way they know how to respond is to beat her, slap her to submission because they are physically stronger and they have the culture (or lack of culture) card on their side. Autocratic ways of men no longer work as well in this generation because now women can stand their ground because they can question and reason out and are independent. No woman was born to be treated badly and when treated shabbily she now makes a noise which somehow makes the man feel threatened as though they are being attacked (talk about hypocricy).
If a man was beaten up will he be quiet? won't he do anything he can do to protect himself? Why do we have the law if citizens cannot take shelter in it - unless your opinion is that a woman is not a citizen!!!? Moreover it is very humiliating that one's own husband who should be the woman's protector (isnt that the culture you talk about) attacks her and hurts her. Enough with this nonsense. Women wake up and teach your sons to treat a woman right. It starts by U standing up for what is right & not putting up with atrocities agnst u in ur own homes. Who knows what went wrong suddenly after the happily married life for 11 years. Can't always hold men solely responsible for the domestic quarrel. There is always two sides of the coin, we need to hear what our actor has to say. Anyway, I wish the couple amicably sort out their differences and rejoin in the interest of their young children's future.

Its the hightime India govt makes IPC 391 A gender neutral , so it gives legal hand for the husbands too , to prosecute their draconian wives. Innocent husbands are harrased again and again due to this gender desparity. If not now , may be after 2014 elections. Most of the housewives sit at home and waste time , last thing husbands wants his little care and affection. Legal experties should advise this boy , how he can cross complain his wife. Like 'criminal conspiracy ' or ,'mis use of law'. Save india foundation and men rights group doing a great job. In future we may see impartial laws. Way to go.

In my limited knowledge, IPC 498A, Domestic violence and harassment is one of the most commonly misused sections of Law, even the people in the temple of justice are aware of it, currently most of the people applying these cases are educated working class people... people on this forum can have a difference in opinion but this is my personal view as i have seen the same
