Mangaluru, Jan 24: With the land acquisition dispute causing delays in the Mangaluru Plastic Park project planned at Ganjimutt on the city outskirts, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has written to the chief engineer of the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). He has advised the board to drop the disputed 9.33 acres of land and prepare a revised plan to expedite the project's implementation.
The ambitious Plastic Park project, spread over 104 acres in Ganjimutt, was approved during the tenure of the late union minister for chemicals, Ananth Kumar. Although the project received clearance for implementation in 2022, it has faced significant delays due to a court dispute over 9.33 acres of land. During a recent site visit, Capt Chowta expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of progress on the project.
KIADB officials confirmed that the dispute over the 9.33 acres has hindered the project's progress. In light of this, Capt Chowta has urged the board to bypass the disputed land, develop the remaining area, and fast-track the implementation process.
Initially, several plastic manufacturing companies showed interest in setting up units in the proposed park. However, delays in the park’s development have led many businesses to look for alternatives elsewhere. Capt Chowta noted that such delays could adversely impact other projects in the coastal region.
In his letter to the KIADB chief engineer, Capt Chowta emphasized the need to resolve these obstacles quickly and attract industrialists to invest in the Mangaluru Plastic Park. He also urged the board to take necessary measures to ensure the project progresses without further hindrance.
