Bangalore, Aug 30: Karnataka state will soon see a new but familiar face explaining the essentials of road safety rules to its citizens, if talks currently under way go as planned.
According to government sources, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Dr D Veerendra Heggade will be the state's new traffic ambassador, along with current ambassador Rahul Dravid.
Heggade has reportedly agreed to become the face of traffic police across the state. Being a well-known leader with vast following, it is expected that his name attached to a Road Safety Campaign will have a positive effect on the citizens.
Sources said that Dr Heggade’s services will be enlisted in order to promote road safety campaigns. Traffic expert M N Sreehari said that Dr Heggade would be a good choice for Bangalore Traffic Police. “People listen to him and he has a genuine interest in the issue on hand. Adding his name to the list of people supporting BTP’s campaign will definitely be helpful,” Sreehari said.
It may be recalled that Dr Heggade's mother Ratnamma Heggade and her car driver died in a tragic road accident on Jan 21, 2006. The death of his mother brought him extreme pain, and even now he feels sad on hearing news of any accident.
With a view to minimise accidents, Dr Heggade has agreed to be the new face of state's traffic campaign, it is learnt.
As a first step, Heggade's picture along with his message will be displayed around Bangalore through banners and buntings.
