Dr Veerendra Heggade to be State's New Traffic Ambassador

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Aug 30: Karnataka state will soon see a new but familiar face explaining the essentials of road safety rules to its citizens, if talks currently under way go as planned.

According to government sources, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Dr D Veerendra Heggade will be the state's new traffic ambassador, along with current ambassador Rahul Dravid.

Heggade has reportedly agreed to become the face of traffic police across the state. Being a well-known leader with vast following, it is expected that his name attached to a Road Safety Campaign will have a positive effect on the citizens.

Sources said that Dr Heggade’s services will be enlisted in order to promote road safety campaigns. Traffic expert M N Sreehari said that Dr Heggade would be a good choice for Bangalore Traffic Police. “People listen to him and he has a genuine interest in the issue on hand. Adding his name to the list of people supporting BTP’s campaign will definitely be helpful,” Sreehari said.

It may be recalled that Dr Heggade's mother Ratnamma Heggade and her car driver died in a tragic road accident on Jan 21, 2006. The death of his mother brought him extreme pain, and even now he feels sad on hearing news of any accident.

With a view to minimise accidents, Dr Heggade has agreed to be the new face of state's traffic campaign, it is learnt.

As a first step, Heggade's picture along with his message will be displayed around Bangalore through banners and buntings.

Our traffic is our culture, attitude, achievement and discipline on the road. I understand the people messing it up. What about the authorities cops in the hiding taking bribes....teach then sense. Book them so that proper regulations are implemented.

Cops, don't stop and ask a BS III certified vehicles (relatively new) the emission certificate but smoky guns firing out of automobiles & ban the certifying authorities. Time to stop taking bribes & get to act.

Congratulations and we wish you every luck sir,
Yes, WE have lost and still loosing precious lives just because of poor roads - shoddy construction shady street lighting or no lighting at all- corrupt Police even pay money to write FIR or even to release the deceased/ bodies.
This is gross negligence and very poor management.
First and foremost Take a aerial mapping of the state of karnataka.
Appoint apowerful team comprising of only engineers and military personnels.
DRaw out strict building codes to build and opearte roads with proper gabbroand concrete or rubberized like in Malaysia.
Constructions should be awarded only to A-Grade contractors who will be screened for bidding process.
they should have capacity and stregth to withstand any odds.
Construction should be totally mechanised and not labor oriented peace meal.
Let the road cross section be drawn in total or complete taking into consideration the dividers-shoulders- lighting- kerbside- landscape- sign age-bill boards for direction-location etc.
Like in Europe or Germany or japan.
    Employ foreign experts
    as consultants from the industry.
    for quality inspection.
Build bridges for /tunnels for pedestrians- build bus stops- Loops- CYCLE PATH- WALKWAYS - Zebra crossing absolutely European and American standards.
    The ministry should have satellite
monitoring system which should be in place with all cameras installed in every check point.
Roads should be 3tiers system with Elevated train systems by the sides.
Let there be pipes laid besides for passing utilioty wires like gas-telephone -cable- Internet- electric wires etc.like a huge conduit.
so you dont screw up the roads later.
Plan it well on paper -study well and implement.
The cross section of the roads should have road base- gab bro aggregate &-top surface for wear and tear should be concrete or rubber.
Engage Malaysians or Singapore contractors and let our jokers learn how to build good roads and not killer roads.

It is a welcome move, but the Regional transport Authorities should also be more responsible. They should impose fines or cancel the license of those who violate the traffic rules. Some of the truck/Bus drivers need to be trained on how to drive & stop the vehicles on the roads. They just drive with no traffic sense.RTO Should watch how the heavy vehicles cause nuisance to smaller vehicles and stop them. Also the pedestrians should be more sensible whilst crossing the roads. Some of them are not bothered of the vehicles when they cross the roads and later blame the drivers. Some of them unnecessarily horn while driving & causing noise pollution. Some people in mangalore even walk in the middle of the road like animals and don't move inspite of horning which again causes noise pollution. RTO should take some initiative to stop this rather than just having traffic ambassador

Sir, you just see to it that the NH authority follows all safety rules like Speed-limits, Sign-boards at all dangerously negotiating strategic locations, Scientific-humps, White/yellow reflector paint/sign-board before every suddenly popping divider…
Sir, heavily fine the drivers violating the traffic rules, suspend the DL if they repeat more than three times, file case against the stray animal owners and the proprietors of buses that leave behind big boulders/stones used during the break-down, demolish un-authorised arches, round-abouts, blind drum/tyre circles…
Sir, please install maximum CCTV at all the junctions inside the city limits, at all the strategic points & check-points in the outskirts and all police stations…
Sir, make painting 35kms Speed inside city limit in rear-side of the entire public carrier a compulsory, fine the bus drivers that stop opposite to one another on NHs either to chat or to block their competitors from overtaking, instruct the bus-operators to stop the service-buses for pick/ passengers outside the main carriageways and create new Bus-bays & Bus-stops…
Sir, instruct the public carrier drivers not to stop on the bends or on road-ends, get rid of extra whistle-blowers in service buses, regulate Limited-Stop bus drivers to check over-speeding to kill…
Sir, educate the drivers to use correct indicator for Over-take and Left/right turns, make KSRTC take-over the city bus services e.g. KUDLA ROADWAYS…
Sir, discipline the passengers to use Q-System, demolish un-scientific/oddly located bus stops, create 15ft. mud-path on both side of the main-road, install speed-limiting governors in service buses…
Sir, please catch the corrupt RTO officials, if they repeats taking bribes for favour, suspend them and if their offence is unpardonable, dismiss them…
Sir, look into the welfare of the RTO officials, their family and their children’s education. Also, don’t neglect their fitness particularly ugly pot-belly and shapeless body.

Our best wishes to Shriman Veerndra Heggadeji.I am sure shriman Heggadeji will bring safety awareness among people and reduce the accidents. Most of the accidents takes place over speeding and drunk driving. There should be hoarding with the photo of accident vehicles and message to drive safely on dangerous spots. Also statistics of accidental deaths.Seat belts should be compulsory to driver and the front seat passenger.

Shri Veerendra Heggade is a right choice for the betterment of Traffic conditions. But what are more important are broad roads with road dividers for all roads all over the state. The road dividers are very safe compare to other broad roads with two way traffic. The opposition in central and the ruling party in Karnataka have dramatic changes now and then but they are never implemented upto the grass root level.Just see the example of roads leading to Kukke Subramanya and Dharmasthala. They are narrow and with hundred of curves which can be avoided by making them straight. Instead of making tons of donations to Kukke and Dharmastala the people should donate land to make the roads broad and straight. The famous teample Kateel is reached through airport road. But you have a shocking experience at padavinangady turn. All of a sudden the concrete road is incomplete because the people are not ready to share the land to widen the road.
