Nativity : Kolkata - Kanara Catholic Association ( KCA ) West Bengal


Kolkata, Sep 18: The  KCA of West Bengal which is based in  Kolkata organized the celebrations on the occasion of the Nativity of Our Blessed Mother Mary on 9th Sept 2012 at the St Thomas Church Hall , Middleton Row . The celebrations were marked with a traditional touch with the blessing  of sugar cane  symbolizing the new  harvest. 

Fr Gregory Monteiro was the main celebrant of the mass  which was preceeded by  traditional adoration of Our Mother by the children  with flowers and Konkani  hymns sung by the  laity  . Fr Gregory and was subsequently joined by    Fr Patrick Rodrigues  , Fr John Noronha , Fr Peter Moraes and Fr Nelson Furtado   to emphasize on  the importance of  the cultural significance this  celebration. 












This years  Monti Feast celebration also coincided with the  75th Anniversary of   the KCA of West Bengal . On behalf of the KCA , West Bengal , the KCA President Mr Pramod  Fernandes welcomed all the Members and friends and  invited  them to join in acknowledging  the 75 years of  KCA ‘s  activities  that were made possible by the active support and involvement of so many of its members and well wishers.  The highlight of the Cultural celebrations that followed was a  video presentation  which showed the “KCA Down the Ages”. The  get together   comprised  of  games , Konkani songs , dancing , raffle  topped off with a traditional lunch.

The current  Executive Committee of the KCA consisting of President - Mr Pramod Fernandes, Vice President - Mr Mark D Souza,  Secretary  - Mrs June Coelho,   Treasurer – Mrs Donna D’Souza , Committee Members –  Mrs Philomena Patrao , Mr Oscar Currie, Mr J. Rasqinha , Ms Mary Ann and Mr Brian Lobo  thanks all who took part in the days activities and also takes this opportunity to  invite more friends and well wishers to join  as Members .

    Thank you for the comments and wishes. We are trying our best to make it better. KCA video is one of our new endeavors. We are very soon going to start Konkani speaking classes in Kolkata for all KCA members and their children, who are not fluent in the language. Prayers and blessings are most welcome.

    Happy to know that "Monti Saibiniche Fest" is celebrated in Kolkata as well. My stay in that city was short, but the memory is still fresh! All the best to KCA members & my friend Fr Greg.
