New Delhi, Sep 12: India’s gem and jewellery exports maintained their positive momentum in August, with gross exports rising 12.52 per cent year-on-year to Rs 21,945.87 crore, according to a report by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
The report said the month witnessed a notable shift towards value-added jewellery, with studded gold jewellery exports recording strong growth amid demand from the US, UAE, Hong Kong, the UK and France.
Studded gold jewellery exports rose 64.96 per cent to $642.85 million, while another measure cited in the report showed a 51.22 per cent increase in exports in US dollar terms.

Cut and polished diamond exports remained under pressure in value terms. However, the volume of such diamonds exported increased from 12.94 lakh carats in August 2025 to 13.36 lakh carats in August 2026.
The GJEPC said the growing share of finished and value-added jewellery indicated stronger incorporation of diamonds into finished products within India, potentially creating greater value across the domestic manufacturing chain and supporting employment and economic activity.
“This shift towards value addition is significant for India’s gem and jewellery ecosystem, as more diamonds are being incorporated into finished jewellery within the country, creating greater value across the manufacturing chain and supporting employment and economic activity,” the report said.
GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali said the August performance reflected the resilience and adaptability of the industry.
“August’s export performance reflects the resilience and adaptability of India’s gem and jewellery industry. The increase in diamond export volumes, along with the sharp growth in studded gold jewellery exports, highlights India’s growing ability to create greater value by transforming precious materials into finished jewellery,” he said.
During April-August 2026, exports of gold jewellery, including plain and studded jewellery, increased 7 per cent to Rs 47,853.03 crore, according to the report.
Plain gold jewellery exports declined 11.44 per cent during the period, while studded gold jewellery exports increased 26.73 per cent. Cut and polished diamond exports declined 7.38 per cent.
Silver jewellery exports grew 35.57 per cent, while platinum jewellery exports increased 19.67 per cent to Rs 953.36 crore.
Exports of polished lab-grown diamonds rose 11.76 per cent to Rs 5,076.61 crore during April-August 2026.
Exports of coloured gemstones, however, declined 1.92 per cent during the period.
