Mangalore, Oct 25: Police have arrested three people for allegedly attacking three youths with sword and sticks in front of TB hospital at Moodshedde here on Tuesday October 23 night.

The arrested are identified as Ganesh Shetty (23), Bipin Jogi (21) and Lloyd Monteiro (21).

As per the information received, at around 11.30 pm two brothers Hyder Ali and Hassan Ali, and Abdul Jaleel, were pasting posters of Kasargod-based Mahimmath School’s 20th anniversary celebration in front of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the three accused came to the spot and allegedly threatened to kill them if they did not stop putting up the posters. Ganesh Shetty reportedly attacked Hyder with a sword when he did not respond to their order. While trying to defend, Hyder is said to have injured both his hands.

When Ganesh again tried to attack Hyder, the latter's companions stopped him. Hassan and Abdul who tried to save Hyder were allegedly beaten up with sticks by Bipin and Lloyd.

After the attack, the three accused fled from the spot, said police sources.

Sources said that, Ganesh and Hyder Ali were said to be classmates in eighth and ninth standards. The rivalry during school days might be the main reason for the attack, said a police official.

The attacked has been condemned by SDPI Vamanjoor, SSF, Dakshina Kannada district and various other associations.

It is learnt that police arrested Ganesh, Bipin and Lloyd near Gurpur bus stand on Wednesday October 24. They were produced in the court and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.
