Mangalore, Oct 27: Fire brigade personnel on Saturday October 27 averted a tragedy after a parked Maruti Omni caught fire.

The incident was reported at Dongerkery at around 11.30 am.

The LPG cylinder of a tourist Maruti Omni (KA 19 C 7291), which was parked near Canara High School accidently began to leak, soon after it was filled at a gas station nearby.

It is said that a valve jam led to the leak.

The leakage was discovered by a passerby who sensed the gas odour emanating from the Omni. The owner of the car Shankar Prabhu was immediately informed and fire brigade was called.

As the leakage could not be stopped, the fire personnel emptied the gas cylinder to avert any disaster. Luckily, the leakage did not spark fire.
