Mangalore, Oct 28: DIG (prisons) Vishwanathaiah, Mysore division on Saturday October 27 visited Mangalore sub jail, which has been in the news for clashes and fights among the inmates. The DIG held discussions with the officers and jail personnel.

“I had a primary discussion with the jail authorities and tomorrow I will inspect the condition of the jail. I will be presenting a complete report of my inspection to the state ADIG," Vishwanathaiah informed the reporters.
 
It may be recalled that on Friday October 26, communal clashes erupted among the inmates over discrimination of food supply. A few among the injured were admitted to Wenlock Hospital.
 

Continued Investigation

With regard to the recent incident, a case has been registered in Barke Police Station. However, the individual names of inmates involved in the incident, are not registered in the case. The investigation in the case is on, the police said.
 

Shifting Shortly

The temporary shifting of inmates to the newly constructed barrack, which is located beside the present sub jail will be done soon, police sources disclosed. It is learnt that DIG Vishwanathaiah will also examine the newly constructed barrack during his visit. Moreover, State ADIG Gagandeep is said to visit Mangalore sub jail on November 1, police sources informed.
 
Discussions over setting up jail outside the city have begun in the government level meetings. Already 77 acres of land has been identified for this regard and there is a need of further 33 acres of land.
 
According to the unconfirmed sources, as many as three barracks will be constructed in the 100 acres. As the plans are seriously discussed, the completion of newly constructed barrack located beside the sub jail is already stopped.
