Mangalore, Oct 31: SFI state joint secretary Jeevan Raj Kutthar condemned the report of Delhi’s private university’s vice chancellor professor Govinda who recommended for closure of 12,740 government Kannada medium schools in the state.

“The state government’s decision to close as many as 12740 government schools wherein there are less than 30 pupils in the school, is nothing but privatization of education system”, he said. Student Federation of India (SFI), DK district committee will not allow Kannada Rajyothsava celebrations on November 1, he added.
 
Addressing a press conference here on Monday October 29, Jeevan Raj Kutthar said that instead of strengthening the government schools in the state, the state government is keen on privatization of education and thereby discriminating the right to education for all. If the quality of education in government schools is improved, the government need not give the excuse of shortage of students. When the government is allocating funds to religious mutts, why the same money cannot be utilized for betterment of poor children, he questioned.
 
Professor Govinda’s report states that there is no need for recruiting teachers. However, as per the RTI act, every 20 students should have one teacher; hence the need for recruitment of new teachers’ surfaces, he said.
 
Stating that the report is hazardous to DK district too, he said that already the private educational institutions are ruling the roost. Situation is such that the children from poor and middle class families are finding it hard to get education. If the recommendations in the report are implemented, as many as 179 schools in the DK district will be closed which has below 30 students.

More than 700 teachers and 300 mid-day meal staffs will lose their job. Hence the report should be criticized, he said.

He also urged for the introduction of English as one of the language from class 1 itself in government schools to make government schools more attractive.
 
Razak Montepadav, SFI district secretary, Charan Shetty, SFI vice president, Fayaz Manjanadi, SFI joint secretary among others were present at the press meet.

    Dr. Harishchandra,

    You may be knowing that SAC is an English Medium School presently changed to CBSE(Kannada Medium units are gradually closing for lack of students). All English Medium Schools have Kannada subject from 1st Standard as per State Government's directive. As such, if parents aren't interested in admitting their children to Kannada Medium there is no sense in keeping the schools open and gobbling up the grants !

    A Welcome move with a perverted approach. All schools in Karnataka irrespective of Medium should teach Kannada as a Full fledged language from class 1. Take example of Alosyius in Mangalore. Education is needed but not forced corporate education. Kudos to Jeevan Raj Kuttar. At least he has the sense to say it, Most mangaloreans are hypocrits.

    Find out which school Jeevan Raj Kuttar's children go if he is married and has children. If he isn't, then take an affidavit from him that he will send his children to no other school than Kannada medium school failing to which he will forfeit all his assets. The hypocrite will flee.

    Politicians have been minting grants allocated to Kannada Medium government schools so far. We all know the state of such schools and the level of students studied in them. At-least now it is dawned upon them to close the schools and allow our future generation an education that is valid on national and international level.

    Jeevan Raj wants to attract publicity at the behest of Kannadamma. Else, he would not have threatened to hinder Rajyotsava celebrations.

    It is better to convert all the Govt. Schools to private schools and all the money govt is spending on these schools shoulbe be spent on Poor students education in private schools.
