Kuwait, Nov 10: Kuwait Kannada Koota (KKK), a non-profit socio-cultural association, affiliated to Indian Embassy, arranged a lecture by well-known personality Padma Vibushan N R Narayana Murthy - founder and chairman emeritus, Infosys Ltd on Friday November 9 at Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) auditorium, Mishrif.

The topic of the lecture was ‘Entrepreneurship’. A session on ‘Corporate social responsibilities’ was scheduled to be conducted by author-philanthropist Padmashree Sudha Murthy, chairperson of Infosys Foundation, but she could not attend.

Satish C Mehta, Ambassador of India to Kuwait presided over the function. The programme began with a formal welcome by president of KKK Dr Surendra Nayak K, followed by introduction of the session by Satish C Mehta. Ahmed Fawzi Musaad Al Saleh, chairman, Kuwait Computer Services gave a humorous speech which was appreciated by everyone.

Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy, better known as N R Narayana Murthy is an Indian businessman and co-founder of Infosys. There was pindrop silence in the audience as he addressed the gathering. The hall was overcrowded and audience were accommodated in another hall and video transmission was provided.

Murthy in his speech asked all the Indians to be grateful to the countries they stay in and to work for the development of those countries honestly. He urged them to have a powerful idea to become an entrepreneur. While talking on bureaucrats, he said that good bureaucrats at good places can make a great difference in development.

The audience gave him a rousing standing ovation at the end of the speech. He succeeded in touching the hearts of Indians in Kuwait. There was a question-answer session which had tremendous response. The well arranged programme came to an end with the vote of thanks by treasurer Dr Nagesh Babu S. The programme was ably compered by Vasuki.

Murthy served as the CEO of Infosys for 21 years and was succeeded by co-founder Nandan Nilekani in 2002. At Infosys he articulated, designed and implemented the Global Delivery Model which has become the foundation for the huge success in IT services outsourcing from India. He held the executive position of chairman of the Board from 2002 to 2006, when he became the "non-executive" chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor. In August 2011, he retired completely from the company and taking the title Chairman Emeritus.

Murthy serves as an independent director on the corporate boards of HSBC and has served as a director on the boards of DBS Bank, Unilever, ICICI and NDTV. He is also the chairman of the Governing board of Public Health Foundation of India. He also serves on the Asia Pacific Advisory Board of British Telecommunications. In 2005 he co-chaired the World Economic Forum in Davos . He also received an honorary degree from Lancaster University. He brought Infosys from mere 250 dollars to 26 billion dollar Company. Those countries must be Grateful to those who worked hard to build the cities and roads and basic necessities Mr. Murthy. Businessmen never support their hardworking employees because they are never satisfied with their greed. Even if Mr. Murthy retires in Gulf countries they will cancel his visa and send him back to his country.

I do not subscribe to the sayings of Sri Narayana Murthy. His advise to NRIs is not only uncalled for and unnecessary. After all, in which capacity Mr.Murthy can advise NRIs who have made possible their footing in any overseas country by their own capacity and hardwork. No body need teach loyalty to Indians stlled abroad and every person settled wherever is a king by himself.Mr.Murthy has no authority to advise anybody except employees of his own company.

Very noble message by Padma Vibushan N R Narayana Murthy to the Indian expatriates -" Be Grateful to Countries You Stay In "

To add little more, one should be grateful to the place where one dwells, to the State to which he or she is citizen, employee should be grateful to the employer/to the biz entity, where one is working then one's outlook will be very positive and there will be better environment.

Narayana Murthy is one of my role model.

Mr. Roshan Sequeira I think you have never heard of Foreign Contract Recruitment. On a foreign contract the Gulf country delegates come to your native country and ask your help. They recruit you from your hometown and they are responsible for your entire safety and transportation, housing accommodation, furniture, maintenance and ticket every six months on land jobs or every 40 days if on off-shore jobs. You think people come to Gulf countries on their own. Your thinking is absolutely wrong. You have not seen the dessert of Dubai before the construction of these cities, The Arabs used to come to India and request Indians to come and work in their Gulf countries. The exchange rate was 1 Dirahm = 2.75 Rupee. Indian Rupee was the currency in most of the Gulf Countries before their National Currency was introduced. Now the cities are built and established and flourished, so there are lot of visitors and business companies, free zone established in 1992, it does not mean you can forget the past. These cities were built by hard working dedicated expatriates. Migrating to any country is our choice, our freedom, we are not bonded laborers as you think. Expatriates work on a contract and that is the reason there is Emigration Clearance check by the Indian Government. Expatriates are not slaves.

Yes Narayana Murthy, be great full to Country you stay and don’t even get up and respect the National Anthem where you born. Infosys did millions of dollars as profit and did they do anything for the society at free of cost? Your security personnel quiz every visitor for half an hour before they enter the Infosys building to meet someone. Sure I feel great to visit Infosys Head Quarter in Bangalore just because of your Security Guards at Gate

However unskilled and semi-skilled labour of India has nowhere else t go.

So we cannot blame anybody here...If NR Narayana Murthy goes to Labour attache of Indian Embassy, Kuwait and sit there for a day,,, perhaps he will not say what he said.

    Dear Gentelmen,

I think there are people who come to Gulf Countries, earn a fortune, migrate to USA/UK and then start critisizing them.
People are comming to these countries own thier own will, because thier home countries do not provide opportunities to earn suffcient income.
Instead of blaming Gulf Countires, persons critisizing these Gulf countries should realise that how Country/countries they stay(reside)manipulating the world affairs to suite them

N R Narayana Murthy - founder and chairman emeritus, Infosys Ltd. Be grateful to countries you live In - I do not agree with Mr. Narayan Murthi especially in Gulf countries. These countries are built by the expatriates and these countries say they do not tax on your income, but these countries squeeze your income through different ways either through high rent, visas, Health insurance card that charges you for every visit, Highest in the world on your driving license, and so on. There was only one tall tower built by His Highness Sheikh Rashid the thirty three flower tower in Dubai. Rest of these buildings where built after the Iran- Iraq war after 1988. Only AbuDhabi had few towers in 1980's. These countries suppress the basic fundamental rights of human being and also they make the laborers suffer with a very low income and shabby accommodations. The laborers live like animals and nobody has the freedom of expression nor freedom of speech. If you live here legally even for 20 years or more spending your entire youth life dedicating your service you will never get any rights nor you can apply for citizenship in these countries. Then Mr. Murthy what do you mean by "Be Grateful to Countries You Stay In. These Countries Government should think about those people who have dedicated their entire life with great services to build these countries from scrap to greatness. I have seen the transformation of these desserts into Metropolitan cities and cosmopolitan cities. Who have built these cities. Mr. Murthy you are just a new comer and a guest who has seen these new cities. Always these businessmen talk about the richness and not about the hard work of the people who have worked in the heat and sweat and falls from the tall tower. There are no human rights in these countries.

Great message and a valuable message from Mr. Narayan Murthy on Entrepreneurship during his visit to Kuwait.

More than twentyfive million Indians residing all over the world are not only Entrepreneurs in their own style but also many of them have provied to be "Uncrowned Ambassadors" of India.

If and when the global economy improves, the need for Indian expatriates will continue to rise because majority of the Indians know the value of hard work and honest work. Most of the Indians abroad also know the value of giving back to their own nation and that is why we are the largest contributors of foreign exchange donors repatriating large sums of money back to India.

Notable people such as Mr. Narayan Murthy have shown the way for us to be proud and patriotic Indians, and the world at large knows too well our patriotism and dedication towards India.
