Puttur: Brother's Murder over Property Dispute - John Sequeira Surrenders

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur

Puttur, Nov 18: John Sequeira, accused of killing his brother Joachim over a property dispute on November 14, surrendered before the court in Puttur on Saturday, November 18.

Puttur police have now taken the custody of John Sequeira.

It may be recalled that Joachim and John, residents of Kailara in Beltangady taluk, had an argument over a property issue. As the situation turned worse, John, in a fit of rage, hit Joachim with an iron rod. Though Joachim was rushed to hospital, he breathed his last on the way.

It is said that the brothers used to have arguments over the property bequeathed by their late father Anthony Sequeira almost on a daily basis. John is married and has a child, while Joachim had planned to marry soon. They lived in the same house with their mother.

Joachim had plans to build his own house and shift there after marriage. He had even laid foundation stone for it near the present house. This had led to further dispute between them, ultimately leading to Joachim's death on November 14.

This case atleast seems to have a closure. I knew a family in Kankanady, Mangalore. The mother in the family was the sole beneficiary of an ancestral house with some property surrounding it, in this prime location. They were living a good life until they invited their son along with his wife and two grown daughters to come from Mumbai and stay with them. This son made his mother to transfer everything in his name and then started the ill treatment of both the parents. As per eye witnesses, the parents were starved when their son and his family were enjoying. The mother was finally bed-ridden and with neglect she had bed sores that got badly infected. She died within a span of one month and her husband also died with unknown causes. The son immediately sold this property for whopping sum and moved out of Mangalore. Where is the justice for the seniors in this case?

It is sad but true that we are unable to live without money .. when some people come by it honestly, some tend to go to the extremes of even selling their souls to the devil.

Parents are not ready to distribute because until taking in hand children are very good, loving, responsible caretaker and after taking property children are neglecting them, not taking care of them, killing them by their words, deeds and actions. some in ashram some may beg, lots examples happened, They watching, hearing. And we also can see how many are crying.
This brother had plan of killing or mistakely happened don’t know, what evil deeds he had in mind, spirit of anger led him to do. No one want to kill and go to jail. Devil controlled him. He shouldn’t kill, but happen. It was his bad time. Now not only he alone, his mother, wife, child all are suffering.(It is like I will not let you to enjoy or I myself will enjoy)
How much angry we must not raise hand on anyone,
According to the law he will be punished, I don’t see anyone said he must not punished.
God dint say in the world have only good people and happen good things only.
So just we has to pray God give us understanding, keep us far from bad things and bad people and protect us and our generation from this unwanted evil things or people.
Here one example king David was murderer secretly, want to hide and God sent Nathan to explode. King regret and repented, God forgave and punishment went in bloodline.
So nothing is hidden front of God, he sees our one hair also falling and we not.
Price of land is rocking high, brokers are there encourage to raise price of the property so who had more and want more, greed of money and property. So before 25 years who took once share and went far away not bothered, or took care or spent for guard that people also come and stand for full rights and fight for property, and who believed trusted took care thinking it will belong person regrets and cry for trusting,

In most of the cases the more wealthier the person, the more is his greed as they say money attracts money!! This is clearly evident in last weeks killing of two siblings (Chadda bros) in a cross shootout who are supposedly owning assets worth 6000cr, they were not satisfied and wanted more, for what??

Here in this case, the younger brother should have been given his share of the property without any reluctance or condition!! If the victim had readily given his sibling the share such a situation would never have occurred in the first place?

Many rich, powerful, and educated people cheat the other heirs of their legitimate largess using devious means and this is very common knowledge in Mangalore!!

Now, this tragedy could have occurred due to intense provocation by virtue of the victim being not given his share of the property despite repeated requests!!

Whatever people might say, the law of the land considers the circumstances in which the event took place, it could be in a fit of rage, preplanned, under intense provocation, on in self defense!!

This is just an accident which turned into a murder due to the severity of the blow!!

John might sure be repenting heavily!! He needs to be treated as a human, not given spot judgements of kill him, hang him, etc. etc., this is barbaric!!!

By the above, I am not supporting to what John has done but the actual ground reality which we cannot run away from!!

Wonder why people are having sympathy for the murderer. Murder in Fit of rage does not mean he should get lighter punishment. John a greedy murderer, should be punished severely. Imagine the mothers condition. Losing a son is not a joke that too she is old. Wonder how he and his wife must be treating her, when he can murder his own brother, one can imagine what torture the mother must be going through. He will nicely live with his family and all the property. I hope he is punished and he repents all his life for what he has done.

John Sequeira will get bail because the murder was not premeditated. It was done in a fit of anger.

What happened is tragic.I personally feel that parents should divide / settle their properties during their life time. But there have been instances where the children have thrown their parents out of the house.

Today life revolves only around money and property.Life has no other value in society.

For the sake of money and property what not happens. In recent days in Belthangady , a charismatic man abandons his own family for the greed of money and property. He sold his property without giving anything to his beloved wife and kids. All this year wife worked like a dog thinking she and her kids future would be good. But this great husband of hers sold everything while his mother is alive and with wife and kids. Now, a days in front of money there is no humanity to their own family members. They are the ones, who do charity to gain name and fame.. This is also form of crime ... So these things happen everywhere .. But again there are also good people who value the humanity and values. I would like to recognise this man's wife and kids who did not bother to hurt this great man with a belief " God would bless in other ways if He wants, money and property is not everything in life". I wish a man thinks 10 times before he hurts his loved ones for the lust of money and power. Thank you.

Ignorance of law is not an excuse.
First of al John is not a insane person. He loves the property at the cost of his brothers death. Therefore the murder is intentional and John deserves severe punishment. No one is above the law. The court will not accept people's sympathy anyways.

God give strength to the family to overcome from the pain, sorrow..
At least that bangladeshi brother was lucky, he got his brother alive and got opertunity to get forgiveness from brother, before that how much may he regret and repented,God answered his prayer (In the word pordigal son got,and Isak son Jacob got opertunities )
But this brother missed, He agreed his mistake, surly God will fogive him, may there is concequense. blood cry against blood, like Kain and Abel. It will reduce too if he go to Gods mercy feet. God is mercifull.
I pray mercifull God forgive him and bring him out of that according his mercy and grace .
All do mistakes, some can see and some can hide but nothing hidden before God. SO please Don’t judge so we not judged
Let us pray protection of our children. Let not like this thing not happen for our family, genaration and city

@Stany Dsa, kindly not even the law clearly and explicitly states that "death penalty" should be awarded only in the rarest of rare cases!! It does this after ascertaining and doubly confirming that it the rarest of rare!!

Do not tell me that there is any family where brothers have not come to fists for so many varied reasons mostly regarding money and property!! In this case, unforunately the victim succumbed!! By this statement I am in no supporting or gloryfying what John as done! He should and will get punished but to a very lighter extent and he surely deserves a chance to reform himself as he has no history of previous criminal activities!! Such type of accidents can occur in any family which is going through such uncertainity in dividing ancestral property!!

Did you read today how Ponty Chadda and his own sibling killed each other in a cross firing over some property issue! They are big barons in UP and own something worth 6000cr of assets in areas as diverse as liquor, real estate, sugar, paper, films etc. If this can happen why it cannot happen in a middle class family!!

Yesterday four real estate agents were brutally shot dead at one go in a farm house in Panvel possibly because of a big property deal fallout!!!

Whatever anyone might say property and money have the power of the Devil and can lead man to do anything to acquire it!!

Just by saying hang him, kill him is not in human nature though John is at a big fault!!!

You dont have your ancestors property that is why speaking like this. What parents have to do is...they have to share and distibute the property legally well in advance in paper and not physically..so after their parents/or may be when they alive it can be physically possessed as per legal record

I think all of you might have read the news of one such Bangladeshi found his own younger Brother in Saudi this year while sweeping Mecca Masjid Area. Elder Brother disowned him due to family dispute while inheriting huge wealth left behind their deceased father. Unfortunately this multi millioner Elder Brother gave nothing to his younger Brother and this poor fellow joined one of the Saudi Municipality as a sweeper. Ever since he left the house, this Elder Brother became restless and searching for his younger Brother in vain. Finally when he went for Hajj this year, he found his younger Brother in sweeper’s duty dress in Mecca Area and brought him back to Bangladesh. But John Sequeira killed his Brother unintentionally but the result is fatal. May be religion is the difference but story is the same. Joachim left heavenly abode but John will pay the price thru ought his life feeling sorry for his action. Moral of the story is “who wants property or money when we have to forego our near & loved ones”. “When there is no value for human beings then what value you have to your property?
