Mangalore, Dec 1: “If the poor people of rural villages have been leading a decent life, the role and contribution of self help groups is immense. For about four years, the rural women have been able to live independently”, said managing trustee of Navodhaya Gram Vikas Charitable Trust and president of SCDCC Bank MN Rajendra Kumar.

He recently addressed the gathering during the awareness program organized for the members of self help groups here in Unity Hall, Kallpu of Thokkotu.

“Complete development in the society is only possible by creating awareness among women. Through Gram Vikas Charitable trust, we have witnessed a lot of changes and progress in the rural villages. About 75% women are self reliant because of self help groups ", he said. To stop discrimination between the rich and poor, uniforms are distributed, he added.

"Along with our development, we should also uplift others", he advised.

Sushila Loknath of Kumpala Shree Raghavendra Self Help Group, Ireen D’Souza of Janani Savodhaya Self Help Group, Yasmin of Ullala Madani Self Help Group, Bharathi of Mahalaxmi Self Help Group, Asaigoli and Zuvara of Shree Kondana Navodhaya Self Help Group together inaugurated the awareness program.

U S Prakash, retired Tahashildar inaugurated the newly formed groups.

Rohan Monteiro, managing director of Property Infratech, Ullala Sayyad Madani Darga president US Hamza, Monappa Shetty, Sudhir Hegde, Rathnaka Shetty, trustee were present at the function.

On the occasion, Rajendra Kumar distributed ‘Chaithanya’ Insurance Cheque to the members of three Self Help Groups.
