Whenever we hear such incidents, all of us assume the role of Judges and pass our judgement without giving proper thought to the situation. No doubt, bus drivers in Dakshn Kannada are reckless. But one should understand it is not because they like it. Whatever the reason, killing a pedestrian is always a crime and he should be punished as per law. It is also time to introspect that as pedestrians are we following the rules of road safety. Whenever I come to Mangalore, I am scared to drive on the roads because I have encountered many a times a pedestrian crosses the road without any respect to the road rules. Even the administration should be blamed for this state of affair since we don't have proper footpaths for the pedestrians to walk on the road. A civilized society and its rulers take care of all these issues - but in our country "who will bell the cat?"

    Dear Janet,
you think if the driver had 20lakhs he would be still be in the same profession. i agree that it is a careless act, i would rather recommend 6-10yrs imprisonment, so that it would lead to some fear in the minds of the other drivers. i don think money will solve any problem here.

Kindly request RTO to put speed breakers near schools, church , parks and specially near the bar. Also they should put penalty on reckless drivers. Please install cameras everywhere and monitor the speed. Incase of death request the driver to pay 20 lakhs to the family or imprisonment atleast 10-15 years. I am sure we can reduce road accidents.

Photo no 8: Why the focus on Shabari Malai Ayappan Devotee? Looks like a very 'mobile' devotee...
The 'circumstances'of the accident have not been described. There's a photo of a 'Bar' nearby which arouses unwanted suspicion.
The 'air' should be cleared before jumping to conclusions.
Whatever has happened is indeed tragic with another young life nipped in the bud....

Dear animals at the RTO office, please become humans or just go home. We pay taxes and your salaries. So be ashamed and stop making us human beings, your pay masters, bali ka bakra.
So stop for a moment and ask yourself are you doing your job? Dont stand on the road once in a blue moon day and book cases against trucks from outside. They are not the danger. The real danger are the buses that we have in our own city all because of your rampant issuing of permit.

@ Prashanth, Mangalore How do you know I need driving licence without knowing rule. My dear friend for your kind information I did pass the exam legally also read entire rule book to clear the exam and understand the the rule. Also I carry only 1 licence which is sufficient to drive safely. May be you have been interacting with only those type of people who break laws for their benefit. Unless we have strict rule for vehicle accidental death like 7 to 10 years jail for Driver and at least Rs 2 Lakhs to Rs 5 Lakhs of Compensation by Owner of the concerned vehicle, this kind of accidental death will occur every now & then. But who will listen to us? Almost all Political Leaders or Members having their own Transport Vehicle. So, for sure they will not introduce this bill in the Parliament

people talk about development. but how many are ready to give up part of their land for widening. even if roads are to be cut there are 25 people standing to protest. if we want KSRTC buses there are 30 people opposing.we all need mangalore to be developed, but nobody is willing to support or even sacrifice. until then James will be a statistic.

I live in this area and this person died on the spot and the body was in a devastated state. 108 or any services never came on the spot and the body was lying more than half an hour.People were panicked at the site of the body.Well people cud have taken but by the sight may be they just stepped back. but none of the services arrived which was useless and body was left unattended.Private buses must be banned in cities because they dont care if a person is standing on the footpath or anything they think mangalore roads are their fathers property and trottle at high speeds with high beam lights.High speed buses no rules no system this is the problem. Its a shame that citizens have no safety at all in this country. anything can happen anytime and we do not have the right to question or speak because nothin ever happens.this is not a new incident by the buses.2012 in mangalore has the highest accident rates and majority are youth involved.

@ Raj, Its not RTO, its you. you need driving licences without giving any tests and knowing the rules. Its our society made them to break the rule to our convenience for which we are paying now by this type of accidents.

Shameless protesters, instead of wasting time protesting the assembled group could have taken the injured to the near by hospital. We citizens only know to blame the administration department's, We as a citizens must be ashamed of it instead of blaming the police or other administrative body.

May his soul rest in peace.
His family won't celebrate Christmas this year with Joy.
There is one more high speed zone in Mangalore-
From Jyothi Circle to Hampankatta road where vechicles speed 80-100kms in self created lanes even on interlocked surfaces. With parking vechicles blocking one side they compete with each other to get to their destination, endangering pedestrians as well as road crossing people including students from nearby institutions.
Can this menace be curbed by our police & new DC, saving precious lives at peril of reckless speeding vehicles mad race on this road?

This is developing Mangalore. Roads without foot path. Pedestrians lack of safety knowledge while walking in the road. Bus Driver having License without knowing traffic rules. The RTO is the main key source failing to keep the citizen safe.
