Lack of Facilities Discourage Indians to Take up Tennis: Sania

Raipur, Dec 4 (PTI): Indian tennis star Sania Mirza Monday said that people should not always expect a win from sportspersons and should learn to take their defeat in a positive way.

"Every player cannot win all the tournaments. That doesn't mean one should look at them in a negative way," the 26-year-old player told reporters on the sidelines of Gondwana Cup Tennis Tournament that was kicked-started here.

Saying that tennis was a "tough" sport for women, Sania pointed out that there was a dearth of coaches and lack of facilities, which discourage Indians from taking up tennis.

"Tennis was never a popular sport here. Due to lack of coaches, programmes and infrastructure, people, particularly girls, hardly take up tennis," she said adding that they should be encouraged to play the sport.

Sports academies would help in grooming the young talent to reach to the top place in tennis, she opined.

When asked, she said that playing at Wimbledon was her "biggest dream", which she has accomplished.

She added that she aspires to win the Wimbeldon doubles and mixed doubles events.

Replying to queries, she said had she not been a tennis player, she would have become an interior decorator.

Sania said she also loves watching cricket. "Cricket is my favourite sports after tennis and I like Sachin Tendulkar," she said.

We are not at all interested in listening to the songs sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif ASlam. We have enough good singers in India who can sing better than your Rahat & Atif Aslam. For your kind information they are earning good money in india by singing for Bollywood films produced and directed by indians. You can better tell them to go and sing in Pakistan. We will never listen to them.

How will you prove that all of us are 'Hypocrites'? You have a 'Hypocrite' measuring machine by any chance? You know how much we all 'loved' her? We feel very much let down by something which we cant even explain! It's a sort of 'dilemma' she has put the whole of 'India' into and I bet almost all 'like thinking' Indians would not approve of her choice! It's her life anyway- but as she was in public domain , we always felt that she belonged to 'US'and to take that important decision of her life, without taking that into consideration- Well- it's a sort of let-down!You know what Pakistan is about-Hear the telephonic conversation during 26-11 episode between the terrorists- to get a reconfirmation- And this Shoaib Malik- good for nothing fellow-is no saint either- His earlier marriage which was kept a secret-had all of us concerned- It's only our 'love and concern' for Sania- that's making us comment like this- inspite of ourselves. Hope you understand- and better understand!

Whoever commenting against Sania marrying a pakistani are hypocrites. I'am sure these same people listen to music sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif ASlam and so on. Come on guys. Get a life! She doesnt become a pakistani if she marries a pakistani. She is born India and will remain Indian till her last breath despite your hatred against her! Jai Hind

Sania, dont blame the authority, infact you should blame the people. Do you know why? because they just spend money to watch lazy game Cricket but not for any other Games, not even free they like to watch othe games. So why authority will encourage other games.

Sania you have said it right, but it is not just Tennis even other Sports beside Cricket.
Naveen D'souza, Valencia-Kuwait and all others who are having problem with Sania. Guys is Sunita Chawla, Indra Nooyi and many more are they Indians? but you guys praise them as if they are Indians, why? they themself doesn't consider as Indians, same with Sonia Gandhi she proclaims herself as Indians but you guys consider her as outsider. So, better stop it before your kids make fun of you guys.
