Kundapur, Dec 10: In a tragic incident, a bike rider was killed in a head-on collision with a bus on NH 66 near Koteshwar bypass road. The accident took place at around 9.50 pm on Sunday December 9.

The deceased has been identified as Sathish Shetty (27) from Nesaramakki.

The VRL bus (KA 25 C 8266) was plying towards Gulbarga from Mangalore rammed into the Freedom bike (KA 20 Q 148) plying towards Thekkatte near Koteshwar bypass road.

The impact was such that the bike rider was thrown off the road and was badly hurt. He was rushed to N R Acharya hospital, and then to government hospital, where he died.

The bike is said to be completely damaged and stuck underneath the bus.

Sathish Shetty was employed in a canteen at Hyderabad. His mother passed away 8 years ago and father just 22 days back. Hence he left his job at Hyderabad and was working in Thekkatte. The accident is said to have taken place when he was going to canteen.

Accidents have frequently occured in the area due to which several people have lost their lives. The main reason is lack of road signs and the incomplete road construction work. This area should be declared as a danger zone, said locals.

May his soul RIP. I feel it also the responsibility of commuters who need to keep a check, autos use wrong lanes on diversion, nobody questions coz the fare increases if they use right diversions. they use shortcut. Try to go on a bus from mangalore to kundapur, u will have a f1 racing experience. Passengers on the bus need to check with the drivers or conductors on these issues but all they care about is reaching to location, if u drive by speed limit how much delay is it gonna cost, 10 mins max, is it worth all that risk????

May his soul RIP. Its a shame that even after all these fatal accidents, bus & truck drivers are driving like they have wings on their vehicles. I wish there was better infrastructure but we can still manage if we try to remove these speed devils. Let the state run govt. buses instead of the pvt. ones. I am sure accidents will reduce. Anybody overspeeding should be fined heavily.

Capt. Cornelio, blaming cops alone is not fair and it is not possible to keep an eye on every passing vehicle. Blaming others without knowing the exact circumstances that led to accident is not fair. Confusing roads & rash bike riders are equally responsible for accidents now a day.
No one is having patience on the road, everyone wants to zoom and reach the destination. It is sad that peoples are losing their lives mainly because of carelessness of road contractors and our chalta hai attitude.
Instead of blaming let municipality or Grama Panchayats, take responsibility of cautioning motorists plying on the roads by erecting placards or bright warning lights. This not only helps to bring down the accidents, but give extra support to Traffic Police in controlling the traffic. However, in India, people mentality is like this…. It is not my work…. We are not concerned people to handle this….Why should I do this… That is why we are still developing nation, still struggling to have basic amenities like good roads.

Based on increasing number of passengers (and transport of goods) and limited roads, it is very essential to discourage and considerably reduce the volume of two wheelers and SUVs on main roads and as much as possible more public transport units must be introduced, with adequate safety measures and limited in taking (no overloading) basis, if we value the human lives and consider the tragedies in families.
