Mangalore, Dec 10: In what seemed to be a pre-planned theft, a jewellery store located at Bendorewelll here was targetted and gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 6.9 lac was stolen.

The theft occured at Manjushree Jewellers, Bendorewell, on the intervening night of Sunday December 9 and Monday December 10.

The theft came to light on Monday morning when the owner, Manjunath Shet, opened the store and found the place ransacked.

The thieves entered the store by digging a hole into its rear wall, from a small gully that runs behind the store. Though a lady in the neighbourhood is said to have heard sounds, she did not suspect anything amiss, assuming that it came from some work going on in the area.

As the main shutters were left intact, the theft was not discovered until Manjunath Shet walked into the store on Monday morning.

The thieves decamped with 4.9 kg of silver articles, 21 grams of gold ornaments, and other jewellery worth Rs 18,000 which had been kept aside for repair. Altogether, the value of the stolen items has been estimated at Rs 6.9 lac.

Kadri police who arrived at the spot said that at least two or three persons were involved in the theft, as they had dug a hole to enter the store. The wall was made of stone which made the thieves' job easier, they said. It is suspected that the thieves were aware of this fact and came prepared to dig the hole.

Kadri police are investigating.

Mr. Josy Saldana your right hike in price affected mentally for several middle class & lower middle class people.
Still some of them repeating rice per k.g cost were 7 to 12 Rs.
With in 3 to 4 years price had been reached to 27 to 45
But salary remains same or hike in salary just 5 to 10 % but basic needs cost increased 6 to 7 times more from last 4 years.

Everyone is banking on Gold as a precious treasure. No wonder where there is treasure, there are thieve all the times.
We have to think that Gold as an asset, so, it is better to store in Bank lockers, if they are safe enough.
Use imitation jewellery all the times, which comes in more fashionable and designs.
You can give away the same if some one wants to rob you.

I have seen this particular jeweller diligently running his business since more than 15 years. One has to see the kind of establishment he single-handedly runs before suggesting 'motion sensors' and the likes of security devices. Have we paused for a moment to wonder as to what happened to good, old-fashioned police watch or the beat patrol. I am sure the jeweller has paid his taxes to the govt. to be able to avail of the benefits of police patrolling. If not, the state has failed a small businessman in its quest to please the mighty.

All Jewellery merchants should immediately install “Two Way Audio Wifi Night Vision Surveillance IP Cameras " which will assist merchants to see and hear what's going on in their shop live 24*7 on any internet enabled device in any part of the world. The entire security system costs not more than INR2,000 and can guarantee to catch the thief before he succeeds in his mission.

Forget Jewellery, most of us in home give more importance to front door or front portion, & give least importance to rear part. Obiviously thives look for weak portion, & so is the case here. Better to have heavy safelockers installed, maintain it properly, Install Burgular Alarms, Motion Censors, etc. Prevention is better than Cure..

Alibaba and Manjunath Shet. Making profit is just a part of a business. You got to take some precautions my friend. The thieves thought outside the box and that's why they have the box.

Modus operandi is unique and such operations are not new.Jewellers need to keep tight vigil on their shops as thieves RESEARCHING new methods oftentimes.CCTV/ARMED SECURITY 24x7/Police connected alarm systems/wireless monitoring systems are components of security system only.....Installing CCTV against jeweler shop building(with other building)could be even more helpful.

Mr. Manjunath shet, you are now living in the 21st century use, motion detectors, Police connected security silent alarm system, security system and wireless monitoring devices such as video cameras with remote recording. so you can easily identify the suspects. Now the police must take DNA tests and identify the suspects.
