Panel Blames Cops for Increasing Drug Menace in Mangalore

Belgaum, Dec 11 (DHNS): The Legislative Assembly Petitions Committee has found fault with the police for failing to contain the increase in use of drugs among students in colleges and schools in Mangalore city.

The committee, headed by BJP MLA Yogish Bhat of Mangalore, submitted its report to on students and public in the coastal city becoming victims to drug meance, to the Assembly on Monday.

The report said the statistics pertaining to missing women and children show the cases are increasing over the years. Sale and consumption of drugs have been found as the main reason for the increase in such cases. The use of drugs is making youths behave ugly and unruly, creating problem for others, the report said.

The police have not been able to check the use of drugs being consumed with cigarettes and gutkas. Besides, the panel suspected collusion between the police and the drug pedlars. Suggesting various measures to improve the situation, the committee said efficient officers should be posted to the Intelligence wing of the police department.

The government should also chalk out steps to rehabilitate drug addicts. The Mangalore police should conduct workshops on deaddiction for the youth. At present action is taken against those who sell more than 250 gms of illegal substances or drugs. But the committee recommends that sale of even 10 gms should attract punishment.

Blaming police always is very rubbish. What the parents and scool, college authorities are doing. where are the moral policing volunteers to fight against this cause. They are only bent upon about lovers and why they are after them. Let them also do something about drug peddlers and users.

Its absurb. Its not correct to blame only the police in terms of drug abuse. Yes I agree not everything is right in the police force. They anyways are short staffed till the extent that many of them face depression and suffer from BP and sugar.
But when its comes to drug abuse, it is also chiefly the families responsibility to spend quality time with children and understand as much as possible that is going on in thier personal lives. It is natural growing children to fall prey to drug and sexual abuse. But as parents, we must understand that counselling kids about the dangers of such things. A lot of us ignore visiting counsellors or psychiatrists thinking its a shame. But todays fast paced world offers drugs and sex as solace. Sorry but true. Instead of waiting for our children getting caught by the police at a later stage & reach a point where they destroy themselves, its best that as parents we do our jobs and stop blaming society.
We are parents to our kids till they grow, after that be a friend and give them enough confidence to confide thier secrets with us. We cannot compare our kids with the time when we were thier age. Today its different. If we had a degree it was a great thing. But today kids got to do so much to achieve success academically and professionally, its natural they look for various ways to cool off. So no matter what report says what, ultimately, our kids are our kids and we are responsible for them.

Police force is there and is paid to do their job is to enforce the law.
Police force is forbidden to take side of political parties, but the law. They will be at great peril for doing so as Political equations are always changing and will keep on change.
Police should rise above political interference to be effective.
If their FOCUS is lost they will be ineffective in their job also. WE MAY ARRIVE TO THAT CONCLUSION FROM THE REPORT.
Every citizen has his/her work they need/should not do Police job. At the most they can inform Police force if they are trust worthy or the Media to curb the menace.

Why Panel blame only Police Department? Being citizen, we should also impose some responsibility on Parents, Teachers, Head Masters or Principals as well as Deans and finally on citizens also. When we see any Drug Peddler or user, we should also inform Police to take necessary action. Police can’t be everywhere anytime. No doubt there is some Drug Mafia in Police Department too, but I am sure at least we can see 80% of Police Personnel in Coastal Region are found non corrupt
