Puttur: Lovers Go Missing, 'Unite' in Death

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (VM)

Puttur, Dec 15: A couple who were in love for the past three years allegedly committed suicide here on Friday December 14.

The deceased are identified as Chethan (27), resident of Karmal and Navya (23), resident of Kemmayi.

Chethan was the son of Rukmayya Gowda and Navya was the daughter Vishwanath Gowda.

Though both belonged to the same caste and were of the same social standing, it is said that the boy's mother was opposed to their marriage which reportedly led them to commit suicide.

The bodies of the duo were found in an empty house in front of Chethan’s residence.

Chethan was working in a construction company while Navya was working in a shop. They fell in love with each other and had even planned to get married. The girl’s parents had given their consent, and so also the boy’s family except his mother, sources said.

As per the information received, the duo went missing on Tuesday, hence many doubts arose among people. The couple committed suicide by consuming poison in an empty house belonging to Chethan’s granny. The bodies were found on Friday.

When the parents of the duo went to the police station to file a missing complaint, the police, on the basis of other similar cases, reportedly told them not to worry as the couple would be back home after marriage.

A case has been registered in the Puttur town police station.
