Mangalore: Festive Preparations in Full Swing as City Bathes in Joy of Christmas

Mangalore, Dec 21: Christmas joy is in the air as the city gears up in preparation for the big day which is just four days away.

The shops in the city are busy doling out stuff like Christmas trees, cribs, stars, lights, decoratives, cards and others. People are seen thronging the shops to collect the best of the items before they run out. On the whole, the holiday has become a significant event and a key sales period for retailers and other businesses.

Christmas which marks the birth of Jesus Christ is the most celebrated holiday in the world, celebrated even by non-Christians. It is a festival that spreads Christ's message of peace and love.

Christians celebrate Christmas in various ways. In addition to this day being one of the most in attendance at church services, modern customs of the holiday include gifting, distributing sweets among people of all religions, music, caroling, charity and so much more.

Already, festive preparations have begun in places like churches, private firms, schools, religious institutions and among families. Tall Christmas trees, cribs, decorations installed in various places in the city like malls and restaurants have been drawing attention of the passersby.

When asked about the preparations for Christmas, Nimith, an employee in the private sector said that he is sparing no budget to ensure that he and his family have a grand Christmas. "The festival includes lot of work such as decoration, getting outfits ready, preparing Kuswar and many others, but I enjoy it as Christmas is such a joyous occasion," he said.

A college student named Megan said that she is busy preparing for Christmas. "I have done most of my shopping for presents and I am really looking forward to celebrate Christmas with my family, friend and relatives," she said.

The practice of putting up crib, Christmas tree and decorations has been followed since ancient times. People decorate the crib, Christmas trees, and houses in an attractive way. In the crib, the replica of ancient manger is created by neatly placing child Jesus, Mother Mary, Joseph and other idols.

With Christmas preparations in full swing in the city, let each one of us look forward to celebrate this Christmas in a meaningful way by spreading love and peace among one another.
