Beltangady, Dec 21: Former chief minister and KJP president B S Yeddyurappa on Friday December 21 said that Narendra Modi's victory in Gujarat in the just-concluded elections was an individual one and not BJP's.
"If it was to be assumed as BJP’s triumph, then the party should have succeeded in Himachal Pradesh too. Eshwarappa and D V Sadananda Gowda claim that the Gujarat situation prevails in Karnataka too. In that case, let them answer who is the Modi of Karnataka. If not, the people of Karnataka will give them the answer," Yeddyurappa said.
Speaking to reporters at a guest house at Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala, he said that a regional party was needed to safeguard the interests of the state over issues of land, water and language, hence the KJP was formed.
"KJP has three lac members already, and in the next two months another 25 lac are expected to join," he added.
He reiterated that his party will contest in all the 224 assembly constituencies and said he was confident about winning in a large number of constituencies.
"KJP will not compromise or negotiate with other political parties. Candidates to 100 constituencies have already been selected. KJP was not started with the intention of playing politics of hatred," he said.
On his previous statements in favour of Narendra Modi, BSY declined to comment and said those were his statements when he was with the BJP. "BJP won in Gujarat because of the charisma of Modi, and not because of the party," he said.
He warned of organizing protests against the BJP government in all the district centers on December 26 for delaying old age pension, widow pension, handicapped persons’ pension, and Bhagyalaxmi bonds for as many as 10 lac people.
KJP leaders Dhananjay Kumar, district president Ravindra Shetty, Ramachandra Baikampady, Azeez Baikampady, Ravindra Oppanthaya, Sukesh Kumar, Gokuldas Bhandarkar among others were present. He met Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, and also sought divine blessings at various temples including Kollur.
