Mangalore, Jan 7: A curious case of two buses running with the same registration number came to light here on Sunday January 6.

Acting on reliable information, the police conducted investigations about a bus owner who had been operating two buses registered under the same number.

One of the buses was seized by the police. The bus owner was later identified as Arun Vittal, a local BJP leader who runs 'Arun Travels'.

The bus was operating on a contract carriage route and was ferrying a wedding party to Udupi on January 6. The matter came to light when the police stopped the bus and conducted enquiries.

However, the police decided not to spoil the wedding mood of the passengers, and let the bus go with a policeman tagging along to keep an eye on the driver and the bus.

After the passengers alighted at the wedding venue in Udupi, the bus was brought back to Mangalore and handed over to the RTO.

Police said that the registration numbers of two buses was the same, however their chassis and engine numbers were different.

Sources said that there was political pressure on police not to seize the bus, but the police refused to bend and went ahead with their action.

A very good job done by the police in intercepting the bus carrying a wedding party. I congratulate the police involved in the operation and their bold move despite political pressure.

There is a feeling that the policemen are rough without any consideration for the people but here is a case of their humane approach in not spoiling the festivity of the wedding party but merely following the bus until all the people alighted and then only they seized the bus. Does this not show consideration on the part of the people in charge of law enforcement?. I wish there could be more policemen like these.

I congratulate the police involved and sticking to the rule. But I pitty them also. I know that after the initial adoration they will be the victim of the political ire very soon. These policemen might be transferred to places where they will repent for their action. Our political system is like that. People have very short memory. We make wah wah wah and then forget. Anyhow I appreciate their sincerity.

    People,

If Number(License)Plates are provided by government(with unique Logo) like in western countries this problem can be stoped easily.

In US Police Patrol cars are provided with scanners with can scan upto 2000 vehicle number plates in an hour and alert any discrepencies...

We are talking about sending man to moon,,, before that better do this....

I want the police to show that I am wrong in saying "Police are the most corrupt" - by arresting the owner of the bus and making a case aginst him

I DARE THEM TO DO THAT

They have a case with busses with same registration numbers - there is no need for more facts.
They should also make a case against the RTO for issuing same registration number for two vehicles.

All these BJP politicians are corrupt to the core - whether top politician or the one in the lowest rung.

Let us wait and see what is going to happen - is he going to say "I AM CLEAN" " READY FOR ANY INVESTIGATION" !!!!!! which has become BJP Politicians mantra

When a person purchases a bus, then the registration charges are "almost nothing" when compared to the cost of the bus. Looks like a habitual criminal (if this is not a conspiracy) and needs severe punishment.

There should be a total reform in the RTO rules and the parking system because volumes of vehicles are increasing in many folds by the year and the drivers take it easy with typical Indian Chalta-Hey attitude because the system is totally corrupt.
If you notice, there are no Bus bays on the city roads and the highways. The narrow main roads gets more cramped by parking on either sides or sometime tourist/institution buses too just park them on such narrow congested roads either for pick-up or for waiting.
Public too are not scared and roam on the main carriageways of any roads as if they are inside the park. The drivers keep honking out of habit than necessity. The two-wheeler riders, instead of helmets, use plastic hats/caps as fashionable head gear.
There are many unfit buses that are totally shapeless, dented, broken, sharp objects project at the door entrance but still plying on the road without any check. Many of the heavy vehicle drivers are blind and few of them are even deaf, still they are given DL to kill. Express bus drivers have a feeling that they are above law, they have the right to stop at any place for pick-up, drive without speed limit, use mobile, chat with another bus driver, not realising that they are on the main carriageway of the road.
There are service buses with expired permits, double bus on same permit, without permit and the RTO is aware of all this but sadly they are still doing nothing about it.

I appreciate the police personnel and thank them, because the bus which was carrying marriage people, they allowed the bus to go till the wedding venue at Udupi and then ceased the bus. This act of consideration by the police should be appreciated.

Ceasing the bus by the police, in spite of political pressure is really good.
Thank to the media, which has also played active role in exposing the wrong things in our entire system, judicially, loopholes in laws abuse of laws by politicians, biz community, govt machinery etc etc.

Hope our police personnel will try their best to deliver justice to the community.

If a 2 paisa bus owner has to be politically connected, and the politician stoops down to that level, then there has been "NO development" in INDIA. Police should make it a point to involve media and record all these events and the media should ensure all these cases are highlighted in their papers. The Police, court and media should highlight the status of these cases, in order to stop the petty lobbying. At the end of the day, the politician should realize that he loses face by supporting crime. The people, and Media can assure that

In India anything will happen whether its Cong or Bjpor whoever rules. because navu iruude heege. we find loopholes in everything and exploit it to maximum including me , rules regulations safety nothing matters to us. and we will never change . Govt cannot do anything no matter how many laws they pass even if strict punishment is given we will always remain Indians . always waiting to break the law. and some of us talk about this culture as if... an those who have travelled abroad wil fell embarassed by many of the Indian behaviours in public. no wonder we are subjected to maximum racisim.
