Mangalore, Jan 17: The Congress will soon hold a 83-kilometre padayatra from Ullal to Udupi as part of its 'Congress Nadige Samarasyada Kadege' campaign, said president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Dr Parameshwar.

Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office here on Wednesday January 16, he said that the state has been facing several problems about which public awareness is a must.

"Already 142-km walk has already been undertaken at Kudalasangamadeva. A valedictory was planned, but the same will now be held as a homage programme for the late Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Math," he said.

Attacking the BJP-led state government, he said that insteance of communal disharmony have been very high during the BJP reign, especially in the coastal districts. "Minorities have been oppressed in the name of religion. Congress has been giving importance to communal harmony and supporting its cause for nearly 10 years. I is mainly for this reason that Ullal-Udupi padayatra has been planned," he said.

Central and state Congress ministers are expected to participate in the padayatra, he added.

"BJP has failed the people of the state. They promised one thing and did another. The state government should submit white paper with regard to the development projects undertaken and the details of the funds utilized.
Jagadish Shettar should not be presenting the budjet. Legally he may be allowed but not democratically as he does not have the support of the majority," he said.

"Shettar should provide a balance sheet on last year's Rs one lac crore budget by D V Sadananda Gowda, and tll the people how much the government has spent and how much it has pocketed," he said, adding that many of the recent developments like non-payment of salaries to teachers of polytechnique colleges were an indication that the government treasury was empty.

Congress leaders Ramanath Rai, Vinaykumar Sorake, Gopal Poojary, mayor Gulzar Banu, A Ibrahim, Ibrahim Kodijal, Mithun Rai, Praveenchandra Alva, U T Khadar, Ashith Pereira, Meryll Rego and Ivan D'Souza were present.
