Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SM)

Udupi, Jan 17: Pune-Panvel-Ernakulam Express (train No 22149) halted at Udupi railway station at 10.15 am for the first time on Thursday January 17.

R L Dias, president of Railway Yatri Sangh and MLA Raghupati Bhat welcomed the train and distributed sweets to all the passengers. The train stooped for 3 to 4 minutes.

Railway Yatri Sangha and Ragupathi Bhat had planned to have a 'rail roko' on January 22 mainly demanding the Pune-Ernakulam Express stop at Udupi. Ragupathi Bhat said on Thursday that the 'rail roko' will now be postponed for some other day to demand halts by two other trains - Kochuveli-Amritsar (No 12483) and Kochuveli-Dehradun (No 12287) at Udupi station.

The train is scheduled to run on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10.45 pm from Pune and reach Udupi on Thursday and Sunday at 9.56 am. From Ernakulam it is scheduled to run on Fridays and Thursdays at 5.15 am and reach Udupi the same day at 1.40 pm.

There are thousands of families from Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala residing in Pune, for whom the train will prove to be a boon.

Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Damodar Aithal, Mohammed Moula and others were present.

Before this train was introduced 2 years ago we had met then Railway Minister for State Mr Muniappa at Delhi and requested a halt at Udupi is must since it is Dist H.Q.as well as a piligrim, education and commercial banking centre. Then we had given memorundum to Mr Veerappa Moily as well as Shri Jayaprakash Hegde during their visit to Pune.
Lastly we gave a memorundum to Shri Raghupati Bhat,MLA during his recent visit to Pune in November 2012.
We are now happy that a long pending request by over 2 lakhs Tulu/Kannadiga of Pune has been met.We Congratulate and thank Mr Raghupati Bhat,Shri RL Dias and their team for their efforts.

The Mumbai CST - Mangalore express is terminating at Mangalore. if 4 -5 stops in the vicinity of 150 - 200 Kilo meters from Mangalore are not given, then how the Railways think of running this train profitably and making full usage of this train.THANKS.

Good job done by RL Dias, Raghupathi Bhat and Railway Yatri Sangha.

People of Uttara Kannada also should do rail roko to have halts at Bhatkal, Kumta and karwar.

Even though Udupi & Byndoor are having better facilities of trains than the Kundapura… still their representatives & specially Railway Yatri Sanghas aggressively/continuously working. This is just the one example for their success… Good Work.

But in Kundapura our Railway Yatri Hitarakshana Vedike once only took initiative with the help of others to get halt for Bangalore Train. After successfully getting stoppage for Bangalore Train, Samithi became inactive & its not working up to the mark. Not even managed to get halt for Mumbai CST-Mangalore Central Express train and there is long pending list to work on… Out bad luck!!

Concerned authorities need to do some pressure tactics to get better consideration before the budget. During winning celebration in Kundapura our MP Jayaprakash Hegde told “uplifting the downgraded Kundapura Station is my first priority….” Is JPH doing some ground to fulfill the promise this time?

We Kundapura people also directly/indirectly responsible & we do not voice against our downgrades!!
