Udupi: MIC to host ‘Article-19’ fest from Feb 21

Udupi, Feb 20: Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) announced its annual core-communication festival ‘Article-19’ which will be held on the campus from Thursday February 21 to Saturday February 23 in a press meet held on Tuesday February 19.

The festival will be inaugurated by eminent writer-lyricist Jayanth Kaikini at 9.15 am on Thursday at the institute’s auditorium.

Over the course of three days, a series of workshops, screenings, and conventions will be conducted. Bridging the gap between industry and academia, over the years Article 19 has hosted the best minds in media including P Sainath, Stalin K, Prahlad Kakkar, and Rahul Bose.

Students of media from across the country will compete in several competitions. Distinguished personalities from communications and journalism backgrounds will share their knowledge from the field with students.

Scheduled speakers for this year apart from Kaikini are Dilip Cherian, co-founder of South Asia’s largest public relations firm- Perfect Relations and a pioneer in the ‘image management’ business;  Sevanti Ninan, founder-editor, The Hoot.org , one of India’s first media watch websites; Rahul Roushan, founder, Fakingnews.com, Satish Acharya, cartoonist with ‘Mid-day’, who will conduct a workshop also, and Maya Chandra, an independent corporate communications specialist.

Apart from the talks and workshops, the event will also feature ‘ALT_ENTER’ (Alternate Entertainment), a showcase of talent with students putting up dance and music programmes, ‘Express Awards’ ceremony where awards will be presented to students for their entries in 10 categories in various fields like radio, film and documentary-making, advertising, animation, photography, journalism (print and TV) and graphics.

The last day will see a ‘Funfair’, an evening of entertainment and revelry with the theme ‘Arabian Nights’.
