Udupi: Man arrested for luring minor girl, accusing parents of child marriage

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (VM)

Udupi, Feb 21: Padubidri police have arrested a person for allegedly luring a minor girl belonging to Uchila under Bada gram panchayat limits, and taking her to Mangalore and handing her over to the children's home at Bondel on claims that her family had planned to marry her off.

The arrested has been identified as Rohit Daniel from Bhubaneswar, Orissa. A teacher by profession, he is married to a girl from Udupi and settled here.

Daniel is employed at a private school in Kaup, where the minor girl is a student. It is said that he used to send lewd SMSes to the girl and was dismissed by the school management last month after the girl's parents complained.

The accused on January 7 gave a complaint to Mumbai Bala Mandir stating that the family members of the girl were giving her away in marriage even though she was a minor. The complaint was transferred to Bala Mandir at Nittur on January 16, where parents of the child were called and counselling was conducted.

However, the girl gave a written statement that the complaint by Daniel was false, after which she was handed over to the parents.

But on February 18, she left her home, leaving behind a note that there was no fault of 'Daniel sir' and asked for her parents' forgiveness.

A complaint was filed in the police station wherein the parents accused Daniel of brainwashing their daughter and trying to convert her to his religion. They clearly stated that they were not planning to give their daughter in marriage.

The accused was produced in the court and as he took ill, he was admitted to hospital.

As the girl refused to go back with her parents, she was kept at Nittur Bala Mandir, Udupi. On Wednesday she was again produced before the judge where she agreed to go back to her house. She was then handed over to her parents.

Sources said that on Thursday the girl will be produced in the court again.

If secular people believe all religions are same , but then why to get converted ? .
If your religion is secular and peace loving why you insist on converting them after marriage ?

Talking about religion is waste of time. All religions are supreme with profound values. Instead spend the time with community basic needs.

Harish , Its a good thing that you converted and found peace in particular religion good for you .

And i didnt comment with any vengence , i know this case very well and thats the reason i commented . The teacher has been brainwashing the kid for almost 1 year !!!And why was he doing that is for anybody to see ! And there ois nothing awkward in what i commented . That was the truth !!

And Islam bieng part of christianity or Christianity is part of Islam . There was no need to bring up this topic , dont know what exactly you want to prove ? That you are very knowledgeable and others are dumb ??

And pointing fingers for particular religion , if he is doing his job that of teacher nobody will say anything . Unless he starts brainwashing the kid for his own personal gains or heavenly gains !

And maximum things what you have commented ! Frankly doesnt relate to the topic at all!!

@ most of comments , a '14' year old girl is not a 'kid' , but can understand gravity of any situation and relationship. Teacher are also human beings , most of times students only try to pamper , so why most hatred for teacher - student relationships? . Any minor relationship is punishable under juvenile justice act , if its 100 percent implimented half the indian youth will be behind bars!.

I am converted to Christianity and kind reminder for most of the commentators that, i was never forced into Christianity. But, acceptated it as it's a need of the hour! Moreover, being a Christian is not a Religion as i've rightly understood as well as educated and matured enough to make this statement. Becoming a Christian is to become the Soldier of Truth and Peace. Which is a greatest gift one can acquire in life. I will right my Article on the True faith that i've acceptated becoming a Christian. When the eyes of religious blindness, superstions and odd beliefs end there the True Christianity begins. As long as that doesn't happen, the person can still remain lacking understanding and true knowledge of God and Truth and without having these two the life can be still incomplete. So, whoever like Naim, Imtiyaz have commented are really wrong and that it's their vengence which makes them comment so awkward. Moreover, Islam is a part of Christianity and Nobody can be a Muslim unless they accept Christ as their Saviour as it is rightly mentioned in Quran. The last Prophet Muhammad also spoke of Son of God i.e. Christ to follow his concepts and teachings very clearly. I just don't understand where are we upto to comment so badly regarding a Person by pointing fingers to the Religion and Truth he/she follows. It's a utter stupidity and ignorance of bad commentators.

Teachers and priests hold responsible position in our society . But unforturnately most of them misuse their position.
True followers of any religion never indulge in any sort of conversions but new entrants are involved in such activities either on commission basis or on ‘sex’ incentives, for who ,little religious knowledge is too dangerous , where money and emotional manipulation being used convert people rather than moral conviction.

If the teacher's intention was conversion, then why was he sending her lewd messages? Instead he should have sent her sacred messages. Nevertheless, he must be brought to task if proved that he attempted to convert the girl through brainwashing or inducement. True conversion takes place in one's conscience through study, understanding and by willingly accepting the faith. It is against the teachings of Christianity to convert anybody by coercion, compulsion or even through economic favours.

    1) Why Girl refused to go with her parents if allegations on parents are untrue
    2) Danail did not take her to hotel...He took her to Nittur Bala Mandir, Udupi. Then WHY arrest?
    3) Why is the note 'Daniel is innocent' which she wrote when in her house IGNORED.

Any person in distress would need a lot of courage to say NO when refusing to go with her parents. Imagine the pressure she would in when she refused given the kind of society we are. I am certain investigation will be done ONLY on daniel. doubt any justice for the girl....

I know this girls parents personally for almost 25 years ! And they are not the kind of people who are torturing this lil kid or marrying off to old for money( As James bond saldanha suggested) !! They are very well off and belong to a very respectable family in Uchila.

This is clear case of brainwashing the child , imagine the kid is just 14 years of age ! The exact reason for brainwashing i dont know ! Maybe he wanted to convert her to his religion and get a ticket directly to heaven ! God Knows !! Or any other intentions.

So dont blame the parents unneccesarily without knowing the fact ! The story reported by Daiji is correct ! And i really laud them for this brave journalism ! Kudos guys keep it going !!

Proper investigation is required. What is the age difference between teacher and student? Students getting attracted to the teachers is not new, at the same time, if teacher tries to take advantage of students innocense, it should be condemned and proper action needs to be taken.

Now the access to internet, smart phones, Visual media is damaging the thinking style of youths. I hope authorities will get to the bottom of the case.

Luring a minor into convertion or marrying her off at this age, both are crime. Needs to be investigated from both the angles. Now a days school teachers are also active in molestation and rape.

The whole incidents looks merky , on a closer interpretation it looks as if teacher was framed or may be its girls fault ( police and public always blame men , and girl go scott free ). Even if minor girls is involved in marriage , its still valid if not legal. Charges of PCMA can be challenged in court . Apex courts always consider constitutional right as MORE appalling over acts like PCMA. ...............Well i should also consider incident happened in karkala where a teacher arrested for having relationship with 14 year old girl. If accused can understand , if he was married to a girl, l all charges of rape can almost be nullified ( lesser punishment ) .... " india crpc code , if a man has sex with own wife , wife not being leass than 12 , but under 15 can get max two year of sentence". Hope accused lawyers make note of this and save innocent from getting harsh punishment
