Mangalore: Intercollege talent contest inaugurated at Vijaya College

Mangalore, Feb 22: "Some miscreants in the society are exploiting people proclaiming the name of God; with this regard the government has appointed a committee of five members and the government will soon make a decision based on their reports", said Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister of ports and muzrai.

He addressed the gathering after inaugurating the ‘Vijaya Kala Sangama – 2013’, an inter college talent contest held at Vijaya College in Mulky on Thursday February 21.

"The education which we receive today lacks various cultural and traditional aspects. In this regard, the government will seek the opinion from elders and after a thorough study, and it will try to bring changes in the education system", said the minister.

"The government emphasized importance on poor students over the last five years by starting 356 colleges across the state; in addition to this, in the budget this year, the government has allotted Rs 18, 666 crore for their education which is a first when it comes to allotment of huge funds in the country", he stated.

"To help pursue their higher education, the government has also reserved 40% seats in certain private universities for the poor students", he said adding that he also advises students to be good citizens of India and asked them not to accept bribe nor to promote it.

Vikramarjuna Hegde of coastal development authority presided over the function.

Professor KR Shankar welcomed the gathering, Pranesh Bhat Dendadka, Professor Hayavadana Upadhya compered and Amith Pai delivered the vote of thanks.

Entrepreneur SS Sathish Bhat, Bhuvanabirama Udupa, Kasturi Panja, member of coastal development authority, Sunil Alva, Professor KR Shankar, principal of PU College, Pramida Begashwidhyarthi, Professor Narayan, Dev Prasad Punarooru, Professor M Chenna, Amith Pai, Durga Ganesh among others were present.
