Udupi: Inter Deanery devotion held at St Antony's Church Kuntalnagar

Udupi, Mar 19:  An inter Deanery devotion of the way of the cross was held on March 17 at St Antony's Church Kuntalnagar.

Fr Fred Mascarenhas, dean of the Udupi Deanary offered the opening prayer and gave a brief history of the way of the devotion in the catholic church.

Fr Alban D'souza, parish preist Stella Maris Church Kalmady led the devotion. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, the Bishop of Udupi was also present . In his message he said that the cross in Christian life is a symbol of God's eternal unconditional love for the humanity, the sacrifice of Jesus and his forgiveness towards those who crucified him unjustly is exemplary.

"We as Christians this message of love ,sacrifice and forgiveness in our day today life," he said.

Fr Alban D'souza explained the meaning of the seven last sentences of Jesus uttered from the cross and their message for mankind in todays life. Many priests and religious from different parishes of Udupi , Shirva , Karkal  Deanery along with the faithfuls took part in the devotion.

The Bishop of Udupi said that this devotion will be popularized and programmed in Diocesan level from next year This humble beginning will be improvised and developed in the future course of the time.

The Parish Priest of Kuntal Nagar Fr Jerome Monteiro welcomed all. Theodore Mendonca, secretary of the Parish parishad of Kuntal Nagar thanked all. ICYM members led the singing.

The participants were served with refreshing drink sponsored by Catholic Stri Sangatan.
