Kundapur: Employee dupes education department of Rs 3.56 lac

Kundapur, Apr 6: The Byndoor police here have received a complaint that a person working at the office of the block education officer, Byndoor, has defrauded the department to the extent of Rs 3.56 lac by forging the signatures of officials and drawing amounts from the bank accounts.

The accused has been identified as Girish, a resident of Mudramakki Road in Mastikatte, Shirur, working as a group ‘D’ employee. He used to keep the passbook and cheque book relating to the bank accounts maintained by the department with him. He has been accused of drawing Rs 1.22 lac from Yadthare branch of State Bank of Mysore between October 1 and December 14, 2012 from the joint savings bank account maintained there, by forging the signatures of the block education officer and physical education officer.

In addition, he has also been accused of forging the signature of the block education officer and drawing Rs 2,34,900 from the department’s account with Byndoor branh of Syndicate Bank by using the cheque leaves.

In his complaint, block education officer, Chandrashekhar, said that Girish had used the department’s funds for his own purpose by forging the signature and defrauding the department.

The police have begun investigation.
