Mangalore, Apr 7: “Any person, who wants to give an advertisement in electronic/print media, should inform the concerned officials well in advance, giving a full description about the advertisement he wants to publish,” said district commissioner Harsha Gupta.

He addressed the media at a press meet held at Vartha Ilake on Sunday April 7.

Speaking about the MCMC (Media certification and monitoring committee) setup under district administration for smooth flow of election, Harsha Gupta said that media should not report any matter based on political grounds, communal instead report the factual news.

A monitoring cell has been setup so that no violation of code of conduct takes place where all the media channels will be monitored 24*7 said DC Gupta adding any political advertisement in the form of news will be treated as paid news against which serious actions will be taken.

Briefing about the other initiatives in the district, district commissioner said a smart phone based mobile monitoring is launched where a software named ‘mobile election management’ is developed through which concerned officials can post violation of code of conduct reports, photos, videos.

Already 35 phones are given to sector magistrate and returning officers said DC adding he said there is a need of 160 phones altogether as there are 160 sector officers in the district. People can also contact on 1077 for any issue/grievance if they have about election, he added.

Commenting on the SVEEP initiative by district administration, Harsha Gupta said that they have received 18,000 new applications so far from eight constituencies out of which 6000 applications are already approved and 2000 deletions have been done.

MCC commissioner Harish Kumar was also present.
