Udupi, Feb 9: Thieves who entered a house owned by Hanif Sheikh in Munawar Compound opposite MGM College here on Sunday February 8, returned richer by Rs 4.95 lac. Allegedly, they gained entry into the house through one of the windows when no one was inside, and made good their escape with a rich haul.
Six bangles weighing 90 grams, a 60 gram necklace, three finger rings weighing 20 grams, and an earlobe, apart from Rs 25,000 in cash, went missing from Munawar’s home. The house owner, in his complaint to the police, has put the value of items lost at Rs 4.95 lac. He said that the thieves removed the wooden pieces supporting the window, to make their way into the house. The thieves, after looting the items kept in two almirahs, appear to have escaped from the rear door, the family members added.
The family members were participating in a marriage function at Udyavar at the time the thieves targeted their house. They visited Shirva thereafter, before coming back home at 9.30 pm and finding out that their valuables had been stolen.
A complaint was registered in town police station in this regard.
