Udupi, Apr 13: A cooperative bank based in Hiriyadka in the district has filed four different complaints of fraud in Hiriyadka police station. It has named four persons, who were earlier working in the district sub-jail in Hiriyadka, but since been posted elsewhere, in these complaints. Allegedly, these four persons had availed loans from the bank, but failed to repay the same.

It is learnt that Suresh Babu, presently working in Bellary central jail, and Ganagi Mallikarjun, now employed at Raichur district jail, had raised loans of one lac rupees each. C E Mahadevappa, now working at Hubli district jail, had availed of loan amounting to Rs 1.30 lac, while Umesh R Doddamani, working now at Shimoga district jail, was granted one lac rupees as loan. All these loans were sanctioned when the above persons were working here, it is learnt.

While three loans were granted on April 13, 2012, one of them had raised the loan on February 22, 2012. The bank has now found that the salary certificates furnished by these four persons had forged signatures, and that these borrowers had furnished the guarantee of each other for the loans.

Based on a complaint filed by Sunil Kumar, manager of the bank, Hiriyadka police have registered a case. Investigation has begun.
