Bangalore, Apr 13: On day 4 since the start of filing of nominations on April 10, the police have seized a huge haul of Rs 1.65 crore from two vehicles in Nelamangala Police station limits and registered cases on Saturday.
The cash was reportedly being transported in vehicles for the purpose of spending during the election campaign.
Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha said the police seized the cash and informed the Income Tax department officials as the amount was unaccounted.
The cash was seized from two vehicles near the toll gate at Nelamangala, the CEO said.
The police have also sized Rs 12.75 lakh cash in Ramangaram and Rs 8 lakh cash in Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district.
The police booked cases against persons carrying the cash amounts in both places.
The police have seized jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh at Siddlaghatta in Chikballapur district, he said.
The CEO said authorities have received 92 complaints for violation of model code of conduct and action has been taken in 67 cases.
108 File Nominations, Total is 236
A total of 108 candidates have filed their nominations on Saturday.
With the filing of nomination papers by 108 candidates, the total number nominations has gone up to 236.
A total of 16 candidates of the ruling BJP, Congress –15, JD (S) – 9, KJP and BSR Congress – 6 each and Independents 159 filed papers so far.
A total of 17 female candidates have filed nomination papers.
