Kolar, May 14: Former state minister, S N Krishnaiah Shetty, joined the Congress on Monday May 13. Union minister for small and medium industries, K H Muniyappa, welcomed Shetty into his party’s fold.

After Shetty’s name got linked with land scam, the BJP had distanced itself from him. It also had refused to allot him a ticket from Malur constituency during the assembly election. The other parties whom he approached too did not evince any interest in entertaining him. As such, he had fought as an independent candidate, but had to taste defeat.

Muniyappa, who received Krishnaiah Shetty and his supporters with open arms, announced that Krishnaiah Shetty will become the charioteer like Lord Krishna for the party’s chariot in the coming Lok Sabha election, duly comparing the coming election as a war between the right and the wrong.

He said that Shetty has the potential to invigorate the party in the district and therefore, he had held talks with the chief minister on the prospects of giving a suitable position to Shetty in the party. He said he had received assurance on this request from Siddaramaiah.
