Puttur: Two bike-borne youth perish in accident

Puttur, May 25: Both the driver and pillion rider of a Bajaj M-80 two-wheeler lost their lives in an accident which occurred near the Tingaladi mosque in the taluk on Friday May 24.

The accident occurred when the two-wheeler, in an attempt to overtake a bus being operated by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, hit another bus coming from the opposite direction. Mohammed (40) from Arekkila in Keyyur village, who was the bike rider, lost his life on the spot.

Karunakar (19) from the same village, who was riding the pillion, suffered serious injuries. He was admitted into a hospital in Mangalore, but died there later in the day. Both of them were going to Puttur from their village.

The force of collision was so great, that both the two-wheeler riders were tossed to a distance of about 100 metres. Mohammed, a labourer, has left behind wife and two daughters. Karunakar is survived by parents and a brother.
