Kasargod, May 25: Personnel of Badiyadka police station in the district have succeeded in arresting a housemaid, who had decamped with 23 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 2,500 in cash belonging to the family for whom she used to work. The arrested woman has been identified as Shaheena (26), wife of Rashid from Sakleshpur.

The arrest was made by a police team led by M Lakshman, sub-inspector attached to Badiyadka police station.

The above theft had occurred at the home of Jaleel, a merchant from Badiyadka. The family members had suspected the involvement of their housemaid, Shaheena, in the theft. Shaneena had stolen gold ornaments and cash kept inside the almirah, when family members were away. A complaint in this connection was lodged in Badiyadka police station.

After stealing the valuables and cash belonging to Haseena, wife of Jaleel, Shaheena had fled to her native place, Sakleshpur. The police followed the hint provided by the fact that she was in contact with a friend of her from Sakleshpur over phone. They focused the investigation on the basis of that telephone number, and soon nabbed her when she was trying to sell the gold ornaments, from near Vittal bus stand. The police however, confessed that they could not arrest her male friend.

All the stolen ornaments have been recovered by the police. The police personnel were ably assisted in this task by the cyber cell.
